Sounds like New Orleans took the only sensible position here:
  • They were in no rush
  • There is great reason to believe they can get a better market for AD later on in the summer
  • Therefore, only a GINORMOUS offer would be considered at this point in time
  • Therefore, they demanded a GINORMOUS offer from the Lakers

About time. Pels can take their moving goalposts and sit on 'em.

yes...i am saying that- that the #2 overall pick is more valuable than an 18 and 5 guy- without a doubt 100%.
And you're right BUT that doesn't equate to the truth in practical application . The 2 could end up being Evan Turner , Jabari Parker , Derrick Williams , Michael Kidd-Gilchtist, Anthony Bennett just as easily as it could be someone better than Ingram

Hate to break the news to you but I hate the Celtics WAYYY more than the Lakers.

You just think the Lakers young players are much better than most people do.
its just crazy to me hte value some of these Lakers fans are attaching to some of these guys.

I get that kuzma is a valuable player---- but he has major holes in his game- he is a sieve defensively--- and PFs that can score are not exactly hard to find.

Ball is a PG that cant shoot- and is shooting 50% from the FT, he keeps getting hurt, and his dad is crazy and he will instantly want Ball traded if he goes to the Pelicns--- why would the Pelicans want that?

Ingram is a solid player- dont get me wrong- but he has dissapointed as the #2 overall pick, and he is one year away from RFA where he goes from being on a solid deal at like 7-8M a year- to what? making how much per year? I have no clue. You have no clue if he will even want to stay in New Orleans ---- how much value does a guy have that is one year away from being an RFA and you have no clue how much you want to pay to keep him- or if he even wants to stay in the first place?

Yep, no homerism present in this post!

Lakers are still willing to deal, just not going to bid against themselves. Will address a counter offer if it comes.

Untrue. If the Knicks pick drops below 3rd, or the Celtics hold back Tatum, the Lakers could very easily reduce their offer as well. Davis could also directly say that he will ONLY sign with the Lakers in 2020. That would cause ALL offers to come crashing down.

There's also a few free agents who might consider a meeting with LeBron and the Lakers.

ddo you know how many guys average 18 and 5?

Jamal Murray, Gallo, Kuzma, Lou Willims, Russell, Randle, Conley, Harris, Vucevic, Holliday, are just a few---- and none of them- NONE of them, could be traded for the #2 overall pick

to look at raw statistics is a pretty meaningless exercise.

its the potential ceiling, its the cost certainty, its KNOWING you will have the guy for x years for a cheap contract--- there is so much more that goes into it that you are just ignoring.
Having a below average player under team control doesn't mean much . There are more 2 picks worse or equal to Ingram over the past 15 years than there are guys better than him . Basically youre valuing the 2 while saying you wouldn't trade Davis for 2 guys who went 1 and 2 lol. The pick is only as good as the guy you get with it and statistically you're unlikely to hit on a guy guy better than Ingram OR Kuzma.

but you HAVE to take that chance.

Ingram and Kuzma arent going to make you championship contenders- they are building blocks

you HAVE to roll the dice and try and get that franchise cornerstone or its all for nothing anyway.

No I dont and from the beginning I have said that the Pelicans would be smarter to wait. Dont put words In my mouth. If Davis were to remain firm, then no the Pelicans cant and won't do better, but we know Davis to the Lakers is a tactic to force the trade and AD will change his mind about the Lakers just like Paul George did and that is why the Pelicans can do better

Good. Finally . Common sense
The Pelicans were set to take the Lakers to the cleaners. It wasnt smart for the Lakers to trade now. Much smarter to sign a second all star and then trade for the third marquee player This Summer

They already have that guy though and haven't won more than 1 playoff series with him . In today's league you either have 3 or 4 great guys OR you have Lebron. That's how you win . AD is probably the best player in the league and they've done zero with him so if you're NO you either decide to try to compete or you go full Philly and tank for 3 years and pray . Neither are great options but that's pretty much all you've got to choose from

Similarly with the Celtics--- if the Celtics offer Tatum, a lotto pick (the Sacramento pick) say Rozier, and a couple other firsts, id rather have that package than the Lakers package.

The Celtics package is definitely better. But, only if Tatum is included (or a whole bunch of picks). I'm not sure Ainge includes Tatum and/or more than a couple of picks if AD looks to be a 1 year rental.

He's got his shooting percentages up a bit, but really his other stats are pretty much the same. Taking 2 more shots, 1 more assist, but that's about it.

His ppg is up a little over 4 points per game too.
