OK, so, you have a point guard. He's ok, still young, possible upside. But then oops you get a new guy who's way way better. So your choices are keep the first guy around as your backup, with a youngster backing up a youngster. Or you take advantage of your good fortune and trade what you have a surplus of to get something you need back. You can find a veteran anywhere to backup Doncic.

An imperfect analogy is the Wentz-Foles situation. This isn't how it will necessarily go, but if they decided to keep Foles and deal Wentz would you LOL at them giving up on their big time first round pick?

Awful comparison because in the NFL you can't have your QB just go play another position. In the NBA, damn near every player can play multiple positions. Same goes for MLB.

I never thought DSJ was a true PG so you can easily move him to a SG position if you were serious about making this work.

His #'s are solid for a 2nd year player.

Avg 15 and 5 last year as a rookie on a bad shooting %. This year, he is at 12 and 4 on 44% shooting and 37% from 3....Yeah I'm not quitting on this guy by any stretch.

They better be getting some unprotected lottery pick from the Suns for me to agree with this

Agree that it depends on the return. If it's shitty then we will both LOL

Harden with 57 and counting. With no Capela or Paul not a surprise, he will probably take 30 3s a game until CP3 is back LOL

Yeah. The Mavericks obviously know something we don't, but they also know DSJ better than anybody. They probably fear his trade value falling over time the longer they keep him. They know he and Doncic don't fit that well, so they are moving on from Smith while they can still get a good return:

This is why I think the Lakers should move Ball too. Sooner rather than later. Their value will only fall the closer they get to RFA and the longer they play in a system alongside players they don't fit with.

If Aminu doesn't miss those 2 fts to cut the lead to 4, I honestly think they lose lol
With how they've handled close games recently, it wouldn't have been a shock. It's a big win, and against a playoff team!

I decided I want all the Cali teams to be good at the same time for a change, I am rooting for the Lakers and Kings to get good (but not TOO good LOL). Clippers don't count of course, they are a Seattle team. I am from the year 2023.

Make the CA trip like the TX one, dreaded by all.

Eh...I get what you're saying but I think I'm more in bk's camp here. I think its just a tad too early to be abandoning ship on DSJ. Now I liked him a lot in that draft (I think I liked Fox more out of the PGs, but I'm not sure) so that's probably clouding my judgement but either way, its too soon imo. He and Doncic have played together half a season. You're telling me that in half a season they can already tell that they'll NEVER be a good fit? Smith is still developing his game and there's still lots of raw, untapped potential there. That's a risky thing to toss aside after so little time. And looking at the potential destinations rosters (Orlando/Phx), there's nothing either team has that would really excite me if I were Dallas. Like maybe if the Suns sent back TJ Warren and some pick combination, but personally I'd like to wait it out a little more. Maybe at least wait until the summer

There's a case.to be made here yes. Basically it's not an obvious choice.

I'd be perfectly fine with the Lakers being bad, but with LeBron I've accepted that they will be good for at least a few years. Hopefully not NBA title good. Clippers I don't dislike as much as the Lakers especially with Blake/CP3 gone and Boban there, but they are still an LA team. Warriors were still a norcal rival before becoming dominant, I'm ready for their reign to end(as long as it's not the Lakers taking their spot at the top). And Kings fans have waited a long time to see the team become good so hopefully this season is the start of their rise to being legit contenders. It'd be a cool state rivalry if all 4 were competitive at once though, with some tough playoff series' between the teams thrown in.

Look, they have been in the locker room with him for a year and a half. They know him a lot better better than we do.

DSJ is one of those guys. He is a scorer who needs to have the ball in his hands. He isn't super efficient. And we don't know, maybe he is a huge asshole also. In the right situation, I think DSJ could be a good player. Dallas wants their offense to run through Doncic and DSJ isn't the ball mover catch and shoot type guard that they want.

Just about everybody crushed the 6ers when they traded MCW. They were right on that one. DSJ is definitely better than him, but we have to see how the situation develops and what they are able to return before judging it.

Derozan is shooting 18% from 3. Aldridge is shooting 13% from 3.

Yeah, I'm saying they can't shoot from the perimeter. In fact they don't. They are making the mid-range jumper cool again.
Derozan did that for five years in Toronto.

It isn't cool. It hurts, it just sometimes takes until springtime for the hurt to really be felt.

The difference this year is he is taking fewer than 1 3PA a game.

The only season he really took more than that was last year.

I know the Raptors don't get much play down there but last year wasn't the first year they got their asses kicked in the playoffs.

And as usual, this has nothing to do with what I posted.

I never said anything about who anyone would rather have.

You should probably stay out of conversations that don't involve you. You already have enough trouble keeping up with the ones that do.
I gotcha

i was merely stating the fact that "well rounded" does not in any way shape or form equate to being better. Something I am sure you were already aware of. ;)

We will see what they get for him. I doubt anything special

Either way it is funny to me. To give up on a guy who was a top 10 pick in less than years is simply hilarious. Not like DSJ was horrible either.
i would absoloutely hope the Cavs would at least explore DSJ- he is similar with Sexton, but like you said, the guy is a recent lotto pick that has shown he can perform. you can never have enough talent.

the only way I would deal him if i were the Mavs was if he was simply not willing to take on any role but starting point guard. If he insists on being a starting point guard then you will have issues.
