I think most fans of other teams dislike Edmonton for their hoarding of first overall picks and essentially wasting all that talent. I mean Bettman would never admit it, but the last place he wanted McDavid to end up is Edmonton. Imagine McDavid with the Rangers, that would be a marketing bonanza for the league.

/Toronto would also have been fantastic.

I can understand that reasoning. I hear that every now and again in football, how the Lions ruined Barry Sanders and Calvin Johnson.

Toronto with McDavid and then getting Matthews or Laine the next to go with him would be scary.

They've made so many brutal trades as well - Can you imagine Hall and McDavid together on their top line, with RNH and Draisaitl on the 2nd line? They could have also potentially had Mathew Barzal, but they traded that pick to the Isles for Griffin Reinhart. Just awful.

My desire for Jack Johnson to play there was more for my desire to see him in a complete dumpster fire.

I missed that Reinhart one. The Hall trade was just bad.

And looking at some of the worst trades in NHL history, I see this forgotten gem. Kris Beech, Ross Lupaschuk, and Michal Sivek for Jaromir Jagr. I remember the issues the Pens were having with money back then, and Jagr saying he wanted out of Pittsburgh for more money. I had just forgotten how bad Washington took advantage of Craig Patrick.

That Jagr trade was bad. In 2001 Jagr was one of the best in the league. Pittsburgh could have got so much more than that package.

Two ping pong balls jammed on the final number in that lottery, one would’ve given McDavid to Toronto and the one that went through.

And I’m really not sure which I would’ve preferred - McDavid is better than both Marner and Matthews (unless you talk to weekday me) but if the Leafs get McDavid they probably don’t bottom out the next season and who knows how the lottery would’ve played out. Not getting Matthews but getting Laine or Duclair? Cool. Not getting Matthews and getting Pully or lower? Not so much. And without two great players maybe this team isn’t as good as they are right now.

I am assuming you mean Dubois?

Because if you really want Duclair, we can work something out. :)

And I think if TO got Puljujarvi, it's a bit of a different story for him. He's not necessarily top three pick material, but I think he's better on TO and with Babs' and Shanny's leadership than in Edmonton.

Autocorrect initially changed that to Duvalier lol.

I think anywhere may have changed Pul's development to date for the better compared to what's happened to him in Edmonton. There appears to be very little in the way of skills and education that prospects gain in the Oilers organization - it's either they show up already immensely talented or they never show that much progress and slowly fall by the wayside.

Montreal has placed David Schlemko on waivers - Didn't realize he signed a pretty good contract that pays him 2,1 million next season as well. More likely a team would trade for him with Montreal retaining salary than a waiver pickup in my opinion.

Montreal signed a bad contract?

Kopitar's a good one for sure. Hope to see the Kings get it together again soon. Him, doughty, and Quick deserve more than to be on a bottom feeder.

Predators' PK Subban releases video message for boy bullied for race

Holy terror on the ice, great person off it. PK takes the time to send a message to a kid being bullied for being black and playing hockey.

Note: PK did not "release" this video. He recorded it and texted it directly to the kid and his parents. The parents decided to share it with the world.

Schlemko cleared waivers - In other news, Jason Garrison signed with Djurgardens IF of the Swedish League.

As an addition, Erik Karlsson has 23 points in 16 games since Dec. 1. My bet is he's near or at the top of d-man scoring by April.

When Gio signed that contract, I was worried that the last three years would be tough to swallow, but the guy is playing some of the best hockey of his career right now. Must have some of that Wolverine blood flowing through his veins.
