You can't a great defense, if you have shit at LBer, right now only our defensive line and secondary make plays
I don't know what Rams fans in here thought, but I think the prevailing opinion (I had it too) about the Rams defense after all those guys they brought in was that it was going to be really good. Never really materialized. And with a DL like that, you shouldn't have to have Bobby Wagner & KJ Wright behind them. As a unit, they underperformed this year big time. With all those names.

We got the money, Earl Thomas with Aaron Donald in front of him, sounds great

If you want to make Earl Thomas the highest paid safety in the NFL id say go for it. You still need to pay Goff, and would have to let suh and marcus peters walk to make this happen

Understood, but Cowboys are currently at $51 for next season and $115 for 2020, and that's not even adjusting to create more space by cutting guys like, i.e. Allen Hurns. I've not seen any whispers that say that Thomas is looking to go to the Rams. Not that it isn't true, but it's a little out of left field.

If the Rams get him - they'll get a hell of a player. Maybe they could get him to sign a Richard Sherman type deal.

I'm not saying he for sure is going to the Rams, I think he will be a Cowboy too

Suh has been so so this year, I'm more than happy to let him walk at the price he will want. Peters is having his worst season of his career, you can trade him and get something. Ramsey?

As a Hawks fan - I'd prefer him a career Seahawk, was just wondering what was going around that made this rumor happen. Just interested, that's all.

Guys other than Donald are not doing their job, they are getting one and ones and not beating those consistently. Assumptions were wrong, than you have LBers not breaking blocks, missing tackles and having gap discipline.

The Rams defense under performed big time this year they aren't even top 15 in the league, the seahawks D filled with a bunch of young kids performed better than them Kansas city torched them. The rams should probably let people go and sign Earl Thomas to a bunch of money

This sounds like a coaching issue and I don't think Earl Thomas can fix that

I just didn't see it coming. I appreciate how hard it is to build a cohesive unit, and throwing a bunch of new players together usually takes some time before they get it together (look at Seattle's offense this season), but I was convinced the Rams D would be at a lot better place than it is right now. You've done a good job explaining why....I'm just surprised it happened this way.

Earl is done in Seattle. This will be his last season, which I'm fine with. I was one of the few on this forum fine trading him away for a first since BW is the real MVP of this defense. Secondary is... well, secondary. Would rather spend the money on beef up front and another defensive coach (BW) on the field.

It also helps when your HC is secondary minded and one of the best secondary head coaches in probably the last 3 decades. I will never forget the LOB but a HUGE part of the success was because of Carroll. Secondary will be fine. We need line help on both sides big time.

I think the OP's question was about whether he could return and play for the team in the playoffs. I think we all realize it's a no-brainer he's not on the team after this season.

I don't see ET coming back even if he's healthy enough for the playoffs. PC seems good with the group that helped them get to where they are now.

Agreed. ET is only thinking about his next contract. He was already reluctant about playing earlier in this season with no long term deal in place, so no way would he return for the playoffs and risk another injury to jeopardize getting his next deal.

Once he flipped off the sideline, that was the end of him being a Hawk. I read that Sherm is courting ET to play in SF but I'm not so sure Sherm is a Niner next season.

Well that would be tampering, so I hope it's true!

I don't think Sherm has gone full blown Lebron but he's probably had phone convo's here and there with ET.

Yeah, covert ops type stuff. I am sure it happens constantly.

It would be funny if the 49ers sign ET and then cut Sherman. They could save $8M against the '19 cap by dropping him before June 1st.

That would be comical. SF saves 8M? Yeah, he's getting cut.

Wish Earl the best. Unfortunately he will never play another snap as a Seahawk, but I hope he has success wherever he ends up.

Sad that things ended up the way they did, but he and Richard Sherman will be in the Ring of Honor someday and considered two of the greatest players to put on a Seahawk uniform.
