The big ten west is the most boring division in America. Texas recruits would have to sustain that crap division, so basically Texas gets nothing in return and offers up everything, no thanks.
Nebraska and Iowa offer nothing, and again the state of Texas would have to supply all the talent for this dreadful division just to stay competitive. Texas gains nothing in this deal, except more mouths to feed recruiting wise.

Hang on, you bloviating tool. Nobody underachieves like the donghorns. NOBODY!!!!

Over the last 10 years, they'd be in the bottom half of that "crap/dreadful division".

1) Oklahoma......(105-27)
2) Wisconsin......(101-33)
3) Iowa.............(81-48)
4) Nebraska.......(80-51)
5) Northwestern (76-52)
6) Texas...........(75-53)
7) Minnesota......(60-66)
8) Purdue..........(44-79)
9) Illinois...........(43-80)

Yeah, Texas is (9-4) this season. Even Bo Pelini could achieve that.

The move makes sense but personally I'd want Kansas and another B12 school as well. 18 teams offers a lot more flexibility

and the Texas and Oklahoma state governments are going to allow the Big 10 to stroll in and make off with the crown jewels screwing over all the other Big 12 schools in those states which will be relegated to small conferences? I don't see it. They're going to demand at the bare minimum that Oklahoma State and Texas Tech be taken too so as to protect them - they are state schools after all. In previous discussions, it was made clear that Oklahoma and Okie State were inseparable.

I could see a deal with the PAC one day because the PAC has room for 4 and Texas and Oklahoma have the clout to force them to take 4. The Big 10? They've only got room for 2. Oh, and will academic snobbery allow the Big 10 to take a school (Oklahoma) that is not in the AAU? They've never taken one in the past. I know Nebraska lost their membership but they were in when they joined. Again, that'd be a tough sell to those university presidents in the Big 10 who would catch all kinds of hell from their Faculty.

This isn't going to happen IMO.

I believe there will be some reorganization, but I don't see
it happening until the end of the 12-year agreement...Unless
there is a large movement to dump the current set-up.

I believe they will expand the Power 5 base from the current
65 teams to 80 teams. Add another Power 5 League and redo
the selection process for playoff teams.

I think that the remaining members of FBS will get lumped with
FCS, rather than creating a 3rd group at the Div 1 level.

Probably see the bottom part of FCS shifted back to Div II.
There's as much disparity in FCS as there is in FBS. Oregon State
at Bama would be considered a closer contest than Stetson at
North Dakota State.

There are now about as many Division I teams as there were back in the 70s when they split into divisions because there were too many and it was unwieldy. The gap in resources between say Georgia and Buffalo both of which are Division I is just ridiculous.

I can easily see space for 10 more teams in the upper tier....+2 for the Big 10, SEC and ACC and + 4 for the PAC = 10. I could even see a conference or two agreeing to take 4 instead of 2 if it meant they got 2 they really wanted....for example I think at the end of the day the SEC would take NC State and UVA if it meant also getting UNC and Va Tech. I could imagine the current Big 12 getting ripped apart. Four major conferences probably works better than 5. Just having the 4 conference champs play for the national title effectively means an 8 team playoff since the conference championship games would eliminate 4 contenders.

This is typical UT mentality; they claim intellectual fandom rights to all 30 million people in the state.

The truth is 90% of the people in the state hate UT and pull for another state school or give 2 flips about CFB.

TAMU, TCU, BAYLOR, UH, UNT, UTSA, UTEP, and the handful of smaller and junior colleges hate the Longhorns.

That's my point, if UT is stuck in the big ten west and the SEC grabs another Texas school (tech) UT would have to convince kids to sign up to play vs Iowa, N'western, Minnesota and Nebraska as opposed to the SEC west. Right now the big 12 is still looked at as our state's conference, shoot the big 12 even plays the same style as Texas high schools.

Sorry to all you crying team Big ten fans, I just see no benefit from helping you prop up that division. Besides the paycheck its a dumb move, and Texas isn't hurting for money.

The SEC has already said they have no interest in expanding into states they already have a footprint. The only reason to double dip into Texas is for Texas themselves.

Unless the Big ten or anybody else start the 16 team conf trend. If Texas was dumb enough to join the big ten west, SEC would be smart to grab Tech and really make the state of Texas SEC country. Shoot they could grab Tech and okie light and have a major footprint in the region.

Texas Tech? They add nothing to anything. They would be better off going after TCU than Texas Tech. If they were going to double up it would make more financial sense to get Clemson than Texas Tech. Raiding the ACC would be better than settling for TT.

From a financial standpoint, it would make all the sense in the world for them.
Then that is what will happen because it is ALL about the Benjamin's now.
Few people would cry about Baylor and TCU being left out, which is all but guaranteed.

Tech and Boone State might fare little better, but I don't see a league like the PAC or the SEC going, "Ohh, we want the Cowboys and Red Raiders!"
The other eight schools would just ride off into the sunset like the end of a good cowboy movie.

As opposed to Iowa State, Kansas, and Kansas State?

Personally I don't think it would ever happen, but as several have pointed out, if Texas has problems convincing kids to play for them, it has nothing to do with what conference they're in.

Don't think they would like playing at 9PM CST every weekend.

That is a myth. The whole reason the PAC would want Texas and OU is the central time zone. There would be maybe a game or 2 on late.

I don't really see a competitive upside to grabbing Texas , obviously they'd bring money but it's not the 60s and 70s anymore so I'm not sure it's that big of a deal on the field . Obviously if you can get OU but need to take Texas too then it's all good . Personally I'd rather have OU and Kansas because you add storied tradition in football and basketball as opposed to only football . I get the money aspect though so it'd likely need to be UT.

To me 18 teams makes more sense though so grabbing OU, Texas , Kansas and WVU would be my play
