Since it's clear that trolling is somewhat inevitable, if someone is acting like a douchebag, are we allowed to tell them as much without getting banned?

Do the doosh telling via PM's. OT stuff is okay. You have your mods. It's really up to them. If someone is getting out of hand, just let the mods know. I'm not going to intervene much.

Are the bans on this site automatically permanent, or is there the ability to temporarily flag someone? Not that I plan on ever testing the parameters. I'm just curious as to how significant a banning is here, seeing as it was practically of zero value as a deterrent at the old place.

there are different levels of banning, from a couple of days to years to perma-ban. it depends on the situation and severity.

First rule of thumb...we all have differing opinions and personalities, so if you find yourself upset over something being said, first take it to private messages with the person in question, and then, if it can't be resolved there, THEN alert the mods. The mods aren't going to be in the business of moderating every single squabble that arises.

Some posters do have a history with each other due to the reactions to the blatant rabble-rousing that occurred in the past. Let's give everyone a fresh start here and only bring up issues you have with others' actions here and now, and not in the past.
