And who do you have tabbed to become the Skins HC if Gruden is fired?

There is the rub Breed. For a couple of years now Gruden has reminded me of Norv. He has been a good offensive coach but they let the QB he could do that with go. Now they have built the defense to a much higher level which is great.

I have no clue who to turn to. Some years ago I hoped we could groom Kyle Shanahan but that blew up. Then I sort of hoped McVay would be here long enough so eventually he would be the next HC but the Rams saw the value and hired him. The game is an offensive game name, the NFL is becoming more and more like watching a Big 12 college game. I don't love it but I think that is the way we are going. Of course that still requires getting talent. Which is a whole other problem but I can promise Bruce Allen or Doug Williams are not the personnel guys to build a team in that style.

if you get rid of gruden now and saddle a new coach with CDC what does that accomplish ? and how long are you going to give the new coach to rebuild ? and who do you have in mind ?

gruden is in year 5 , if he doesnt make the playoffs and we end up 500 or less then its time to move on

he got my mandatory 5 years so ther you go

they have to draft a QB high next year no way around it with Smith being done that was a career ender injury and he is 35

I don’t recall seeing a team quit under Gruden. He’s not great but we’ve had worse
I agree. But is he good enough to coach a perennial playoff contender and vier for a SB?

While no team may have quit, we have seen many times the team seem unprepared or focused, wouldn't you agree?

I really like Gruden and he is probably a blast on a golf course, but I'm just not sure he has what it takes to be a top notch HC.

and what qb is worth a 1st rounder that we have a shot at ? or are we going back to the cerrato days of gutting drafts for pone player ?

and this goes back to your ABC stance . we had a qb going into his prime but we gave up a 3rd rounder and a starter to get the guy I said wasnt worth it , but you said was the 2nd coming

Yeah, I recall reading an article on Norv where he stated that motivating a player to play was the job of the player not the coach. Now I don't think a coach has to be rah rah or have Pete Carroll-like enthusiasm 24/7, but if a coach can't motivate in some type of way than WTF is he coaching for? Gruden, while he talks tough, seems to adhere to a similar philosophy. I'm basing this opinion in large part on how often the Skins have come out flat, unprepared, and sloppy under Gruden. And like Norv, Gruden is not very impressive in the 2nd half adjustment area. I remember reading another article during Norv's tenure on how the Skins were generally viewed league wide. Our M.O. was keep it close in the 1st half and during the 2nd half we (the Skins) will self-destruct.

In terms of the evolution of the game and whether Allen and Williams can build a team in that mode. You're probably right about DW and certainly right about BA. I can't say I was high on McVay when he was here. I thought he tried playing hero ball with Kirk too much. Didn't care for Kyle either at first, but he grew on me and when the real came out on the scope and entirety of the whole Griffin fiasco. Kyle was the only one who was blameless. He was also smart enough and/or willing enough to put his ego in check and employ a system. I know Kyle has been on people's radar for a minute, @Darrell Green Fan was givin him props when he was OCing for Houston.

Funny thing is, which isn't so funny actually is that in 5 years we'll probably be close to the same fuckin team we are now and the Rams n 9ers with their young gun coaches will be marquee franchises. And some play by play dude or color commentary will say something like during a game, 'In the can you believe it dept. The Redskins had not one, but both Shanahan and McVay on their coaching staff at the same time. Can you believe that.' And his partner is gonna say something like, "No, Bob. I can't, but I'm happy both were able to escape from the Redskins before they were irreparably beyond repair. At the very least, hopefully Allen will be gone by this time. Not that it will help much as Snyder will still be the owner then and long after I'm gone.

Motivation should come from one self. That is no different in the NFL or any other job. In the same way a coach, GM or boss can motivate by letting you know that if you don't do your job you will be replaced.

The way teams circle with one guy trying to fire everyone up has become silly to me. Probably the first couple of times that was done it helped some but now it is just a ritual part of the game or pre-game. All you have to do is listen to any of the old Redskin players to see and understand how they were accountable to themselves, to their teammates and to their coaches.

Fire Gruden!? The guy had you guys poised to win the division before losing his starting QB. Shit, you're still well within the mix.

I agree. Motivation should come from one's self. That still doesn't discount that coaches do things with the express purpose to motivate players. It's why Belichick told the Pats that the Eagles had already planned out their parade route for the SB. When they played.each other the first. Its why players and coach manufacture bulletin board material.
