So let's legitimately talk UCF

However does anyone here legitimately think UCF couldn't compete with pretty much anyone ?

I debate on this this forum all the time with people about expanding the playoff and I hear consistently " it's the committees job to pick the 4 best teams "

Ok . So why does the SoS matter then ? Is it not entirely possible UCF is one of the 4 best teams in the country even if their resume isn't one of the 4 best ?

If you concede it is POSSIBLE for them to actually be one of the 4 best teams despite their resume then why do we hold UCF ( and other G5) to a higher standard than we do P5?

This is not me advocating for UCF. I'm just curious as to why we hold G5 teams to a "deserving " standard we don't hold P5 teams to

UCF was better last year than this year.

I think we should go to a 6 team playoff but no autobids, but MUST BE CONFERENCE CHAMP- if that means conferences select their top 2 differently so be it.

UCF is good but i dont think they would outscore OU, i dont think they would survive a real p5 schedule either.

Yes, their defense has been exposed and i can imagine if they went against another high power offense especially p5 it would really show. You combine a team that has a decent offense and a great defense and i think they get shut the fuck down

They'd likely beat all those (7-3), (6-4), (5-5), (4-6), (3-7), and (2-8) P5's like the big boys get credit for.

Clemson got into the CFP by losing to a (4-8) team.

UCF is MUCH better than Ohio State. No question about that. Better than WVU, Washington State and slightly better than LSU. Jury is still out whether we are better than OU or not, but a good argument can be made.

26th in game control
10th in Massey

I'm not saying those numbers are end all be all, but not being in the top 8 in any of them leads me to believe they aren't a top 8 team.

I don't inherently disagree . I think games vs OU, OSU and WVU would all be close 45-42 type games . I think it's odd so many here bang the drum for "4 best teams " but then when the talk turns to a UCF type team they default to "they don't deserve it " basically arguing against all their earlier comments . Personally I think the 4 most deserving teams should get in so I wouldn't take UCF in the playoff but I also think they could compete with those type teams

#4 in rushing offense
#9 in sacks allowed
#7 in scoring offense
#2 in turnover margin

So only 3 stats matter in the judgement of a team?

I don't think we are one of the 4 best. I do think Clemson, ND, Michigan, Georgia and Bama, IN THAT ORDER, are better than UCF. But, I'm not gonna sit here and say they don't deserve to be in the playoff. G5 teams will always be met with this stigma. We play crappy schedules. Yes, but, outside of maybe 2-3 games, so to mostly ALL P5 teams. If anyone thinks that UCF isn't AT LEAST a top 10 team in the country right now, they don't know college football. Sorry if that hurts anyone's feelings.
