I think constructing laws to make it harder for AMERICANS to vote is wrong. A law that requires a street postal address when the majority of the Native Americans get their mail at a PO box is designed to disenfranchise Native Americans most of whom vote democrat.

Or lets look at it like this, MOST military people on deployment have their mail sent to either the Army, Air Force, or Fleet PO Box in NY. From there it is forwarded to their particular unit. If the same rule were put in place, 60% of our military would in fact not be able to vote.

SO yes I think most of the voter identity laws put in place are designed to disenfranchise minorities for the most part. But it sounds politically correct to say, we just want to make sure every one that votes is supposed to vote, rather than saying.. hey we want to get rid of possible voters against our party platform.
Wow.

So instead of solving the problem, which is ensuring that anyone who wants a proper ID can get it, we just let anyone show up and vote. Well, that sounds reasonable. How hard is it to put a program in place at this reservation to get people IDs?

Its not voter suppression, Shark.

What part of THIS did you miss??

many of whom lack the proper identification and do not have residential addresses on their identification cards.

The law is written in such a way that in order to get proper ID, you must have a postally registered residential ID. As MOST native American reservations have all their mail sent to a PO Box, they cant and wont have the postal verified street address. Period, end game. Meaning they cant register to vote unless they move off the reservation.

North Dakota Republicans began changing voting rules to make it harder to cast a ballot months after Heitkamp’s victory six years ago. Republicans have claimed the changes to voter ID requirements are intended to stop voter fraud, even though in-person fraud is exceedingly rare.

@j_y19 that doesnt even touch on the Georgia governors race where the guy handling the redistricting and closing of polling locations also HAPPENS to be the guy running for governor. NO chance for improper activity there either though right??

Unfortunately, that’s not quite accurate. The law allows for supplemental documentation:

  • If an individual’s valid form of identification does not include the North Dakota residential address or date of birth, or the North Dakota residential address is not current, the individual may supplement the identification with a current utility bill; a current bank statement; a check or a document issued by a federal, state, local, or tribal government (including those issued by BIA for a tribe located in North Dakota, any other tribal agency or entity, or any other document that sets forth the tribal member’s name, date of birth, and current North Dakota residential address); or a paycheck.
Now is this unreasonable? They can get a document from their tribal leaders for Christ sake.

Different situation and one that sounds irregular, at best.

Sorry dude, bu I see a tail of two different agendas here.

Republicans want to make it more difficult to vote
Democrats want to make it less difficult to vote.

Now if you really believe that your ideology is best for the country, and that most REASONABLE people would tink like you, there should be no reason to try and limit or restrict the vote for people that have every right to vote.

Come one dude... if a Democrat was the supervisor of elections, and started closing polling places in a reliably Republican district, republicans would go apeshit and we both know it. In fact if the roles were reversed, Im pretty sure Republicans would have sued to have the candidate recuse themselves from over seeing an election that they were in fact running in.

And in this case, there is no reason why anyone who wants to vote can’t. They may have to do some pre work, but they can vote under this law.

I dont know, do you think Im a Democrat?
I’ve never implied that you were or even gave it a though. But now that I have, my guess is you and I are probably fairly aligned politically.

I’m sick of the ineptitude of our government and am going forward going to call bullshit when I see it on both sides because they all are hypocrites.

Then we are closer aligned than you might think. I register as republican. But I also realize that both sides are playing in identity/fear politics at the moment. And what i think will fix it would possibly delight one side, but scares the living shit out of the other side.

I think it was wrong the way the Democrats handled the SCOTUS seat, but I also felt he should not have gotten it long before the sexual assault allegations.

Flip side every time some one tells me i should rever the constitution, I feel compelled to remind them that my freedom under the constitution was an after thought that some to this day would gladly take back if they could. So while some see the demographic change and cringe.. I cheer it on with ever fiber of my being.

I'm a registered nothing. I'd classify myself as a fiscal conservative and socially moderate. I hat Fox news just as much as I do MSNBC or CNN. But I also do recognize that the MSM is very tainted and play right into Trump's hand. He wants them to be his enemy, that plays right into his base.
I can't stand trump but I also begrudging recognize that his administration has done some good things. But he needs to go. He is no leader, at least not to me. The SCOTUS thing was disgusting and it really pissed me off. Two people were just abused by politicians that were hell bent on fucking each other over. We need to really start holding these asses accountable for their actions.

i am going to expose the voter ID lie . never mind you need an ID in every thing you do in life but since i am an election certifier in MI let me explain what happens to someone who doesnt show an ID .

we accept the ballot and process it . if the election is close enough to get a recount , like it was in MI guess what votes get thrown out first ? you guessed it the ones that dont show an ID . we know this because they HAVE to sign a statement on the back declaring they dont have an ID

now each representative of the parties one dem one rep one libitarian , one ind, and so on get to look at the vote and anyone of them can throw it out and all parties do it if it isnt for their candidate

now if you are foolish enough to show up and vote and want to take the chance your vote doesnt count then be my guest

I am a right wing radical liberal with socialist leanings but a student of the Quran waiting for my virgins but in the mean time I am meditating with the southern Baptists in the Vatican. If I lose anymore hair I am going to have to join the Whig party. :lebowski:

Thats awesome.. now READ the links I posted. In one state they are purging voter rolls, and in another they are making it more difficult for certain groups TO get properly registered to vote. I dont know about your state, but her in Florida, when you show up to vote, if you are NOTE registered, you cant vote period. Forget showing ID, they are making it more difficult to even register. So cut out the middle man per say.
