Our secondary especially the safeties is still a gigantic liability, that 93 yard TD was awful. Can't help but feel this is gonna cost us at some point this season, lucky it didn't on Saturday. Or hopefully the offense can just outscore the remainder of the schedule.

I don't feel sorry for shit. They were lucky to be in this game. Yet again, our WRs loved dropping the ball. Haskins should've had at least 4 more completions and 1 less INT. Also, the PI and then later targeting fouls were absolutely horrendous, especially the targeting. This crew needs a suspension for that targeting call.
Wow the homerism is real with this one

lol..Just because they played Clemson tough in Texas. I wonder if Syracuse will be ranked for playing Clemson tough at Clemson.

Typical SEC ranking antics

This week Florida gets shoved into the top 25 for beating a Miss State team that clearly wasnt very good in the first place and should have fell out of the top 25 last week after getting dominated by Kentucky

SEC SEC SEC!!!

McSwole had the better game. But you put him on OSU and I think it's still a close game. Give PSU's defense a ton of credit and recognize how atrocious the first half playcalling was for OSU's offense.

There were things on each side of the field that drove me nuts.

For Ohio State, it's the fact that you kept giving Trace open lanes to run in, KNOWING full well that he's dangerous both as a passer and a runner. Also, if you or anyone complains about the targeting call, that's fine, but he worst call of the game was Urban thinking Haskins could run it on 4th down, in that enviroment, against a defense playing as well as Penn State was. Truly a WTF moment.

For Penn State - Learn how to read a screen pass. So obvious when they were happening, yet the linemen and LB's were just sprinting to Haskins, giving the RB all day to catch, and run up field with blockers. Also, you can put yourself up there with a WTF call on your 4th down call. OSU is clearly blitzing, and if you put a slot WR and do a quick slot, it should easily be enough for the first down. Instead you give it to your RB that has struggled so much all game?

Also, if either of you want to know where to improve, it's simple. Both of you need to learn to catch the damn ball. Big boy on PSU may of had the catch of the day, but can't catch as simple pass to his chest. Both teams dropped balls so I had to check the weather to make sure it wasn't raining or sleeting.

the receivers were forced to dip their hands in oil before every play.

Missing Bosa was absolutely enormous in this game. Having Bosa on the field with Dre'Mont and Chase Young would've helped immensely when it came to containing Trace.

You, however, are 100% spot on regarding catching the damn ball. The two teams combined for at least 10 drops. Both QBs had to have been pissed. I know the one drop led to Haskins' only turnover. Coming into the game, though, you could see PSU was vulnerable on the screen passes. Illinois ran a few and had success, as well. They're going to need to get that cleaned up for sure.

Of course, missing Bosa is massive, however....if you are going to spy a QB using a LB, then expect them to get their QB to run the ball.

Everytime your MLB would try to rush, Trace would see it, snap it, and run right where the LB should have been.

So frustrating....

Well getting past that first level definitely makes a difference, which is where Bosa comes into play. What's so frustrating is that we're used to having super athletic speedy LBers who were fantastic tacklers. I'm not sure what's going on this year, but it's like they've revered to a childlike understanding of proper tackling technique. The missed tackles in that first half were absolutely maddening.

OSU’s LB’s are not good. They look slow too. I know they’ve recruited some studs like Baron Browning — are they flops?

Borland reminds me of the LB group UM used to have a few years ago. Smart players, but a step too slow.

I dont think they are "slow" they are actually more athletes than football players for the most part, if that makes sense. They take crap angles and make poor reads on the regular. Dline is holding up this defense big time. Even without Bosa. I'd take a group of all Borlands over everything else we've seen so far.

Teams with mobile QBs who throw a lot of short passes are will gash this defense. Safeties and LBers are a huge liability, if anything is gonna cost us a game its those 2 groups.

Someone just asked me today about OSU’s defense and, don’t take this the wrong way — I said, DL is one of the top 5 in the country. The LB’s are mediocre and the secondary is aggressive but can be beat with big plays.

I still don't think Borland is back at 100% at this point. He was so fantastic against the run last year but he's definitely off. Browning is still just a 2nd year guy, so I'm sure he'll come along. Malik Harrison is wildly inconsistent, and Werner is still learning. The biggest issue this year it the lack of proven veteran leadership. Borland started for about half the year last year, but otherwise, this is a very green group. They're talented, no doubt, but they need more experience.

This was PSU's game to lose and that's what happened. Franklin's rant made things pretty comical as well.

That's a pretty damn spot-on assessment.

Safies are pretty bad, corners are OK. Pretty much what it is in what you said there though.

Thankfully the 2 teams on our schedule that were gonna give this defense the most problems (TCU and PSU) are beaten and overwith

MSU and Michigan both kind of play into the hands of this defense. Same with Wisconsin who would be the likely opponent in the B1G title game. Though the offense could always crap the bed and cost us one of those games. We will see though.
