I think Beltre realizes the body is done and retires. If that happens I think Elvis opts out leaving Profar to handle SS and probably a platoon of IKF and maybe Ibanez at 3rd. That would be Guzman, Odor, Profar & IKF/Ibanez covering the infield with Trevino/ covering the catcher.

Choo is in the way as we need Calhoun to DH next season.

Of course, they could always put Gallo back at 3B, put Profar at 2B and trade Odor. That way Choo and Calhoun could split time between the OF and DH.

Not if we are rebuilding. All Beltre can do is play for his legacy. Time to retire or ask to be traded.

I guess if a team is playing for next year as I am not thinking he can make it on a playoff roster

Choo blocks Calhoun. IKF looks like a super utility guy to me. Beltre and Profar could coexist. What do we do with Gallo?

Choo not blocks Calhoun but he also partially blocks Beltre who needs to be DHing at least 80 to 90 of the games if he comes back. and Beltre and Profar block IKF at 3rd with Andrus and Odor blocking him at 2nd and SS. Chirinos blocks him at C. IKF has played in 108 games with them healthy he would see maybe half that in 2019

Moving Choo unlocks quite a bit. Just not thinking we would get value if we trade Calhoun. Will be interesting and do need a RHB especially if Beltre retires

Perhaps if Beltre retires they restructure Andris contract. But we did have a crazy offseason with a lot of low ball contracts. Not sure how all this effect Elvis but might. No way Kershaw opts out

do you really think the Rangers are going to put $21M on the bench? it is either trade Choo or play him and unfortunately he is virtually untradeable.

Sometimes you have to plan ahead.

The pessimistic take is to say they will do this all wrong and trade away players who could help in the future to keep Choo happy when we aren't going anywhere anyway. I am not that pessimistic. Not yet, anyway.
