That was one thing on the podcast with Mike Wright that I agreed with. If he's so upset about Parker and Manu's comments, which were taken completely out of context when you actually watch the videos, what the hell is he gonna do when someone like LaVar mouths off and says something about him? If he's this sensitive in a tiny media market like San Antonio, he will absolutely crumble elsewhere.
The one thing I've heard throughout all of this is that an impetus for Kawhi wanting out of San Antonio is because he got a shitty sneaker deal. Now for the life of me I can't figure out why players get so obsessed about sneaker deals and ignore the massive deals they are being offered in salary. He's going to need one hell of a sneaker deal to makeup for the nearly 100 million in lost revenues he's facing because of all of this nonsense.
I also don't think that Kawhi is equipped to be The Man! His personality is not well suited to that sort of intensity. LA would be ok because Lebron would be the focal point. Philly would be ok because Embiid just eats up the limelight. Toronto would be tough, IMO. They won 59 games last year but were still pretty far from being a contender. Would Kawhi be able to carry them further or to the same point? How would he handle being the guy that every reporter wants to talk to after the game?
Also...I really want no part of anything Toronto has to offer. I like Kyle Lowry and Valanciunas, but that's about all I'd want from them. DeRozan is a great player, don't get me wrong, but I don't think he's reliable enough in the long run.
DeRozan is a max contract guy. Not sure he provides max contract value, particularly in the playoffs.
