I actually agree with that.......Theres gotta be users in, like a Pudge, maybe a Piazza and Bags, probably even Frank Thomas, cause if I used, Id go on the offensive like that too

Thats how I know Verlander is a PED user

Yeah, Frank basically said two things:

1) everybody knows everybody cheated, so let them all in
2) If you didn't cheat, you'd be screaming and hollering that you didn't, and none of these guys actually scream and holler

Hard to argue, I especially agree with Point #1....Not that i think its "Everybody", but many have definitely slipped through the cracks which makes it blatanly unfair to the others.....

And lets be honest, its a popularity contest anyway, the assumption is David Ortiz will get in, and thats based solely (besides his accomplishments) on him being a likeable guy, as opposed to Clemens and Bonds

[QUOTE="DirtDirtDirt, post: 11831299, member: 9697" there are idiots in here that accuse Aaron Judge and Gleyber Torres of being on steroids because its easier than to just accept they are really good at baseball, so Im not allowed to fire back? Who made up those rules

This just in.......
Justin Verlander and Garret Cole are pretty good pitchers and have a history of being good.:suds:[/QUOTE]

Cole was a decent pitcher, but nothing special for the Pirates. Moves over to the tougher league for pitchers and starts dominating.

As as great as Verlander had been in his career, he'd never been this good, and he's 35.

I wouldn't say that. Folty had 3 bad seasons, and while the raw numbers aren't bad this year, he even has a respectable WHIP despite all the walks because he doesn't allow many base hits, he's still the biggest head case I've ever seen as a starting pitcher for the Braves.

He has to lead the league in 0-2 counts that end up being a walk. And let one borderline pitch get called a ball or one grounder find a hole, and he'll lose focus for the next couple of batters. He usually gets out of it because he has good stuff, but it's why you see a lot of 5 inning outing from him.

But he's a bit of an enigma too. He's a headcase, but he seems to do his best work against top starters in big moments.

His best 3 starts this year have came against Strasburg, Chris Sale and Scherzer. He won all 3 and was pretty much unhittable.

You might be right. You definitely watch more Braves baseball than I do, so I'll have to take your word for it. I just see what he has done in the highlight on MLB tonight.

One question, would you reverse the trade today?

Frank Thomas is probably the only player from the era that is above suspicion(well maybe a soft tosser like Maddux, I'm not so sure PEDs would have helped his performance considering what he was trying to do)

"As early as 1995, Thomas was advocating drug testing for professional baseball players.[27] After hitting his 500th home run, Thomas stated, "It means a lot to me because I did it the right way", alluding to Barry Bonds's then-ongoing pursuit of Hank Aaron's career home run record.[28] Thomas was, then, the only active baseball player to be interviewed during the preparation of the Mitchell Report. He did so voluntarily."

No. I might have tried to get someone other than Rio Ruiz in retrospect. Gattis is an American League player. He had a gun for throwing out base stealers, but he was pretty bad defensively as a catcher, and was a joke in left field. The offense was fine, but we really had no place to put him. The Suzuki-Flowers catching combo has given me nothing to complain about.

Folty has been good, but his numbers look a little better than he actually has been.

He has nights where everything is clicking and he looks like the best pitcher in the league. He also has nights where he has 115 pitches through 5 innings, where he didn't allow many runs, but had no control over any of his pitches.

I've seen him pitch a complete game with 11 K's and only 1 walk and 2 hits. I've also seen him go 5 innings while striking out 10 while walking 5. You never know which version will show up.

Right. And if this was his first full year in the majors you and your ilk would be making a thread about Mookie instead of Chuck Morton.
He was basically Mookie from "Do the Right Thing" just a few years ago......

Frank Thomas made Aaron Judge look like a pipsqueak. Guy was a savage at Auburn as a TE. Him using steroids wouldn't have made much sense.

he's definitely filthy no question about it. That said, he better be taking a piss quiz at least 3x/week bcuz this has an odor to it.

Doesnt matter.

You think Bonds, Clemens, A-Rod, Armstrong, Ortiz, and the rest were never tested? PED makers know what the testers are testing for.

They’re all juicing, and the only ones getting caught are the ones buying the cheap shit, or the ones too stupid to follow instructions.

@richig07 is on HGH right now.

personally I don't think it's a bad as before. The players who get caught are mostly Latinos who can buy this stuff over the counter at home. Testing is much better than before in that they do have some knowledge of what these guys are using to cover up the drugs that are helping them. Before they didn't realize what guys used to hide this stuff. Cano is perfect example. He was actually detected last winter even though it took months to be sure they had him. He was caught by trying to hide what he was using.
Not to say guys aren't still using today bcuz they most certainly are. The chances of getting caught are much greater than they were during the Bonds/Clemons yrs.

One thing I've learned from this thread is if you are big, it is more likely you're hitting those homers naturally. I guess Papi was clean after all.

Of course the chances of getting caught are much greater than during the Bonds/Clemens years - they weren't testing at all back then.

I still think probably 75% of professional athletes (baseball players included) use PEDs, and I disagree that the testing has caught up to the drugs. It's a cat and mouse game and the drug manufacturers are always ahead of the testing - they learn what the tests are looking for, and they develop a way around it.

don't misunderstand , I don't believe testing has caught up or ever will. I'm just pointing out that at least these days they know enough to look for the drugs that are masking the real drugs. Wasn't too long ago they never even considered that. It would be interesting to see how many athletes are actually using.
