Time will tell.

Gilbert paid that tax on a team that didn't win.

So, it's not that farfetched for a Team with a shot at being a dynasty.

But, they have to win.

If they don't, there's this nifty little thing called the trade market and we know at least the Lakers would gladly absorb Klay.

What does their TV deal and gay as Jersey patch pay per year?

* All jersey patches are gay *

Clippers have the gayest of the gay....female tinder.
Mecca how much extra money do you think you make between a team that goes to the Finals and wins the finals? at MOST 5M? lets say just for the sake of argument its 15M- which isnt even close- i am sure 5M is even high...i mean cmon.

Tv deal, gay as patch deal.

They have other means of revenue.

The Lakers who you've said are amongst the poorest owners wouldn't blink at that why?

Because they have a $150 mil per tv deal.

I don't know that the WArriors have anything similar.

But, if they do, that'll help soften the blow, yes?

just for comparisons sake- the most ever paid in a single season with the luxury tax was the Nets- when that crazy Russian worth about 14B paid a lux tax bill of 91M in '13-'14.

Cavs last year at 54M....I think they are in for more this year- but i dont think itll break 60M....those are easily # 2 and 3. The next highest after that was the Bricks way back in 07 with about 46M

The most the Warriors have ever paid in lux tax was last year at 15M.
But, this is also the most consecutive winning/record breaking seasons they've had in decades. Couple that with them having new ownership (new in terms of having taken over in the last 4 seasons or so) & 4 all stars that make up their core & I don't think it's as far fetched as some might have us think.

no- what i am saying is at that level- any type of revenue is totally outstripped by the sheer vastness of the numbers.

I mean- carrying a 160M payroll is expensive enough.......carrying a 110M dollar lux. tax bill is untenable.

Over a 3 year span you would be spending 810M on player salaries. No amount of patches, tv revenue, playoff game revenue, face tattoos of General Electric and Apple on Draymonds face can pay for that. A guy like LAcob- @Heatles84 said- had about 1.5B he said above or something right? Think about laying OVER half that out on JUST player salaries over a 3 year period.

Its not possible. At that point the math just does not work no matter how creative you get. AND thats if Durant is getting a discount, Klay is getting a discount, NOT factoring in Draymonds eventual raise, and they fill the other 8 roster spots for only about 15M a year.

If said this before, and the Warriors fans disagree....

But, I think somebody will have to go if they aren't winning Championships by the time Draymond's deal comes up.

I think it will be Dray, they think it will be Klay.

But, if they are winning, I think the Owners will pay.

But, time will tell....quicker if Klay refuses to give a discount.

This should help explain how keeping this team together - even with the financial burdens of max contracts - could work its self out.

I think it's always a gamble because no one is ever guaranteed to win. To your point about winning by the time Dray's deal comes up for extension, they've already won an additional title since his last contract extension & are primed to win again this summer. I don't think many of us see them dropping off completely in the 2019/2020 season so based on your theory they have pretty much already met that criteria.

I think they find a way to keep this core together - even if it means an extensive payroll for multiple seasons - as long as their chances of winning are in the 90 percentile.

kid saw his opportunity last night and put his best foot forward...

good for him...

Awesome story, really happy for him. But....

LMAO at ESPN making this dude more than he is. Wilbon and Kornheiser matter of factly saying other teams look bad for not picking him up.

Ingram is a dime a dozen. He is a 6 foot nothing guard who had a day. He can shoot it. That does not mean he is an NBA caliber player or that any teams that passed made a mistake. Let's see him do this next season when his opponents are actually trying before we say other teams messed up.

What you guys are forgetting is the Warriors are opening their brand new arena in 2020. While it's privately financed, the team is going to make up that revenue fairly quickly by personal seat licenses. On top of that they're going to have a ton of corporate sponsorships from San Francisco and the Silicon Valley.

The team's goal is to not only remain competitive, but to stay elite at that time to keep interest strong in the early years of the arena.

Paying the luxury tax would essentially be an investment into the long term financial success of the new arena and other ventures the Warriors have.

It's entirely possible that the Warriors opt not to want to foot a bill that big. Completely understandable. But it's important for the Warriors to have not just a competitive team at the time the arena opens but an Elite one. If push comes to shove, I believe Lacob will foot the bill, so long as the Warriors are a top 2 seed in the West.

Klay in Celtics green would look okay.

Spurs lose, they're 7th or 8th. I don't imagine they'll win, and 7th seed is most likely. So, first round at Golden State. Without Kawhi, we get swept again.

I think i could say a billion trillion dollars and it would not mean anything to you and you really dont have that much interest in digging in--- but are content to sit on the surface and just say "they will find a way" without really confronting the true economics of the situation.

I mean the new luxury tax rules and its extreme progressiveness was instituted to make sure such a thing never happens---- and it wont- because unless you want to run totally INSANE deficits and hemorrhage tens of millions, if not hundreds of millions of dollars- you just cant do it.

Says the guy who bragged for years about Dan Gilberts deep pockets. I guess the luxury tax only applies if it doesn't suit your narrative right?

Also my post didn't indicate anything about "finding a way". All I said was big picture, it's financially prudent to invest in a team that is Elite, because of other off court issues. I also said they could potentially go another route, but of course you gloss over that.
