Nope.. leave it sit and control his rights for the next three years. Fuck if we want to release him and a year later he decides he wants to come back and work for Jerry's kids. If he wants to retire, he can be retired until his rookie contract expires. And even then I would offer him the first round tender so if he tries to sign elsewhere it costs that team a first round draft pick. Hell we have burned more than $1m in money for guys who actually WANTED to be here and we released them. So IM fine with making sure he doesnt play again if this is really about him getting out of Washington because his mamma is a Cowboys fan.

Also interesting side note on this. As long as the Skins dont request he pay back the bonus money, they own his rights until he completes his 4 year deal. As long as he is on the reserve left team, he doesnt get credit for a year against the contract.

IN english, he still owes us three years. This year wont count because he is on the reserve left team. So unless he reports and plays, we own his rights indefinitely as long as we dont file a grievence and force him to pay back the bonus, at which point we would have to release him and he is free to sign with any team with zero compensation.

So yea, swallow the $1m in cap space and if he really wants to go else where, its going to cost the team that wants him at minimum what we gave up for him.

I seriously wonder if this is a case of this kid not being able to put his well being past trying to make mommy happy. His mom is apparently a die hard Cowboys fan, and even when the Skins play Dallas, she refuses to pull for her son to do well according to reports. Now maybe he has other issues beyond this, but again I got to wonder considering that he basically walked away from an opportunity that only about 2500 people on the planet have any given season.

There has to be something else going on with this player. If he wants to return here, this would indicate that the mom/ropers angle may not be as big a factor in relation to whatever else he's going through.

Sty, have to figure his agent has informed him, the only way he gets free of the Redskins is to report and have them release him. In some cases, retiring the day of final cuts would have been enough for the team to release him and he could change his mind later and the team would have no recourse.

In his case, since the Skins have not released him or filed a pay grievance, the only way he gets free of Washington is to report next season.

Yeah most likely you're right about that, but because we have a great GM, I expect that this is also a move to gain audience with him at which time they will work out a deal that let's him keep the money just as long as he promises to not go elsewhere.:D (see: sarcasm)

Its $1.1M, if Im Bruce I tell him, dont blow it all at once because your career will end as a Redskin. If he reports next year, I keep him on roster as a punt returner.. backup punt returner. Inactive on game days. IN 2021, if the Cowboys want him,. he can go make his mamma proud... for a second rounder that is.

There is more to it. This is not the first time he has done this. He left his college team for a few days under very similar circumstances. Just disappeared after being injured. When they finally found him, he said he wanted to quit. So clearly the kid has issues. At a minimum, maturity issues, but it sounds as if he also has emotional issues. Great scouting, BTW.

I wonder where other teams had him ranked draft-wise or if they were actually avoiding him. Like everything else, we'll probably learn the real deal 2 or 3 years from now.

@Stymietee, I agree as well, its not his mom being a Cowboys fan fuckin Cravens head up. And I also assume if Cravens should want to come back to play ball. He'll do so with the Skins.

Agreed, however, there's a real possibility that he's suffering from some sort of blood poisoning from all of those times that his mom dressed him in those silver blue and white colors.:D

Breed, I will just clarify. I dont think mom is the only reason he wants to walk away. But the support of ones family is a big factor when you are that age. So I do think it might have some kind of impact on his thinking when we played Dallas last year, he is out on the field, and mom shows up in a Zeke Jersey.

At the end of the day from a Skins standpoint though.. we gave up a econd rounder for him. If he is going to continue to play football he owes us three years as far as Im concerned. Hold his rights, eat the $1.1 million, and if some one else wants him, well we could use the second rounder in our trade up bid next year any way. :D

Can they examine Cravens for CTE now or is that an after death, autopsy type deal?

@Sharkinva.

I don't necessarily disagree about wanting family support, but Cravens is also at a age where for some people. the last thing they want to hear is advice or what to do from a parent. Not saying that is Cravens issue, but I do agree. If I'm the Skins I'm not cutting him loose anytime soon.

Is the 1.1 million being paid out over the length of his contract?

Nope, its already been paid. We are just accounting for it over the length of the contract. So about $370K per year goes against the cap for the bonus prorate.

Word. I'm totally fine with him retiring. Dude should do what's best for him and not give a crap what any of us think.

But if hes just trying to jump ship...no.
