Well for my take, a generation is determined by a major shift in thinking, action and how we do things.

During the Civil War, it was all about which direction te country was heading.

During the world wars, it was all about which way the world was going to head.

As Skinsdad pointed out, my parents generation probably thought there was no hope for us.

I tend to think this current generation has some challenges that are unique to the time that we live in though.
