How long of a suspension can we expect to see for Bryce Harper? Obviously Strickland will probably get one too, but I think everyone is more interested in Harper's length. I'm afraid he'll get off the hook somewhat because he's Harper.

Harper should get 2. The fact that Strickland is still mad about Harper homering off of him 3 years ago makes him a twat-waffle of the highest order, and is evidence A1 of how baseball players are emotional cripples. "Hurt my feelings, and I will throw a baseball at you at 95+ mph"

They ought to start giving out 30 game suspensions for intentionally hitting batters.

I hate the unwritten baseball rules so much. Why can't baseball players get over this shit already?

I wouldn't even call this "unwritten rules," it's just plain ole butthurt from Strickland.

+1 for "twat-waffle"

I've come up with two new rules to make baseball a better sport:

1. If you intentionally hit a batter with a pitch, including but not limited to any pitch that crosses the batter's box, you are automatically ejected and suspended 10 games.
2. The number of strikes required to strike a batter out will be reduced from 3 to 2.

He deserves zero. You know it's bullshit when the catcher doesn't even try to protect his pitcher. You can't just attack a man like that and not expect him to come at you.

However, he will get at least 2.

Edit: I just realized the poll is "will" and not "should". Sorry for the miss-vote.

A few key facts that will/should be taken into account...

He was not the instigator.

He has a history of hot-headedness.

He threw his helmet (key point, IMHO).

He threw (and landed) actual punches.

As he was pulled from the scrum, he somewhat calmly left the field of play.

Overall, I think both players will get decent suspensions, but I don't think one will be significantly longer than the other. The key points, I think, are that it was a 98 MPH pitch, Harper threw the helmet, and Strick needed a horse tranquilizer to leave the field. Basically, I think everything else is somewhat incidental.

I don't think the helmet throw will factor in much because it wasn't thrown at Strickland.

What history of hot-headedness does Harper have?

I think Strickland will a longer suspension and I think it will be "significantly" longer, depending on one's definition. If harper gets two games and Kirkland gets three, that's a 50% longer suspension, which I would classify as "significantly" longer. There's also the point that Strickland isn't an everyday player and they tend to lengthen suspensions for them to even it out a bit.

Not sure why Strickland should be suspended.

He hit a guy, shit happens.

Then said guy loses his mind and charges mound. What's Strickland supposed to do, Don Zimmer him?

Seems pretty clear that the pitch was intentional. I know it can't be proven, but I bet it will be considered. We'll see.

even in his post game interview, Strickland alluded to the fact that Harper has owned him, so he was trying to go inside on him but went a little too far inside.

It's hard to prove it was on purpose, but I am pretty sure you give him the benefit of the doubt and give him the suspension.

Commissioner should just dictate Strickland has to placed in the lineup today for four at bats and then forget the suspensions.

I don't follow the Nats, so I can't put a list together without doing research, but there was the issue (last year?) where he went ballistic on the ump for tossing him after the game. I may be wrong, but wasn't there another situation or two of him charging the mound in a bat-out-of-hell manner? Also there was the Paps fight last year (though I believe that was more on Paps than Harper).

So, nothing concrete.

I don't follow him too closely, but I don't think he has a reputation as a hot head. You could be right, but I don't feel like researching it either, so I'm going to assume you're wrong unless some good samaritan is willing to put the work in.

I also think he has a reputation as a hothead, although I too cannot prove it.
