I also think he has a reputation as a hothead, although I too cannot prove it.

People refer to Harper as a hothead, and I think it's just because he wears his emotions on his sleeve. He plays the game at a high intensity level. He's kind of a cocky douche, he celebrates his homeruns with gusto, and he plays kind of recklessly. He's just a very "high energy" and "in your face" kind of guy. I think "hot headed" falls into that broad descriptive category.

All that being said, Strickland has been described as a goon, and I've seen multiple outlets say even his teammates are tired of his shit. I'm not saying Harper should have charged the mound, but he had every right to be pissed off that some scrub middle reliever is still pissed about a homerun that he hit three years ago.

To be fair to Strickland (not a homer, just playing some DA)...

Dud wasn't a rookie on the biggest stage in the game. He was seriously struggling (6 HRs in 4 IP, IIRC) and he lost his composure on Harpers second shot (Strickland was barking at Harper as he rounded the bases). Basically, it was a humiliating situation for Strickland. Right or wrong (basically, wrong), Strickland needed to purge that demon. Harper was just the symbol of a career low for Strickland.

Just a theoretical peek into the psyche of Strickland...

I get all that, but throwing at a guy for shit that happened three years ago is a bad look. Nobody else fucking cares. I mean... the Giants went on to win the WS fa' chrissakes. You'd think that WS ring would help soothe his aching ego.

Can't disagree with any of that.

But it wasn't a Giants/Nats thing. It was a Strickland/Harper thing.

I just think it's a stupid-ass practice. I know you're not defending Strickland..... just saying "this is why he might have done it".

I know some people are like 'you can't throw inside, people could die!". I say that's ridiculous, the last guy to die from being hit was Ray Chapman, and that was 100 years ago. But you can (very easily) break a guy's hand or a finger, and put them out of action for a while. It's stupid, and just completely unnecessary. You're out there competing. The guy got you! So what. Go out there and get the next guy. OR get him next time. If you can't handle the mental stress of getting "beat" by one of the best baseball players on the planet without having to resort to drilling him (for literally no reason) maybe you shouldn't be playing at the highest level.

its his 8th ejection in a few short years and did we already forget the clown question?:suds:

Bryce Harper’s seventh career ejection broke the ‘Hothead Scale’

There you go. I stand corrected.

I will add though that the link describes two of the seven ejections as BS on the Umps' side. All of the ejections are also Harper/Ump issues, not Harper/other player issues. I'm not sure if that means anything to me or not. I do remember when UltraQuim, Cole Hammels, plunked him and he just put his nose down, took his base, went 1st to 3rd on a single and then stole home. Maybe that's shaping my opinion of him more than it should.

Regardless, what the hell does the "clown question" bit have to do with any of this?

WTF? That peek betrays a pussy psyche. Plenty of players get their asses kick when they first come up. To use Harper to personify his suckage is gay.

Well said. I also think that because he acts and looks like a douche, coupled with his talent, he walks around with a target on his back a lot.

He deserves zero. You know it's bullshit when the catcher doesn't even try to protect his pitcher. You can't just attack a man like that and not expect him to come at you.

However, he will get at least 2.

Edit: I just realized the poll is "will" and not "should". Sorry for the miss-vote.

Posey just came back from a concussion, probably not best to get involved in a fight.

I saw where CBSsports.com (I think) took the time to write and post a "why didn't Madison Bumgarner join the fight" article. I even clicked on it and you can imagine my surprise when the the body of it was longer than "because he's not a complete fucking asstard."

I am usually the first guy to bag on Posey for being a wuss, but I'm not calling him a pussy for this one. When that pitch hit Harper, POsey's body language was like 'oh, for real? God dammit........"

Not to mention, the rest of the Giant's infield stood around and made sure Harper got to Strickland as well. NOBODY was running in to defend Strickland *right away*
