Wouldn't Klay Thompson be a better fit for the Lakers than Paul George?

I think all the Klay is gone talk is premature. Everything that's ever been written or spoken about Klay says how low maintenance of a player he is. If the Warriors give him a strong deal, I think he highly considers staying even at a slight discount. I'm not talking about millions off, just maybe not a full max deal, as he did with his last deal.

LA is definitely a contender for him, but I think the options will come solely down to the Warriors and the Lakers. It'll just be a matter of preference for him. I think the money will be somewhat the same. His role with the Lakers will be larger, but his role with the Warriors will be more important.
I hope you're right, he's my favorite Warrior. But I just don't see why the owners would want to pay the ridiculous luxury taxes to keep all 4 of them there. The most expendable of the Core 4 is probably Klay

Why?

Because they will win every single championship for the next 5 years if they stay together.

And, I don't think any of the 4 is expendable. They might still be able to win without Klay, but it would go from a 95% chance to like a 40% chance. Losing any of the big 4 reduces their odds drastically.

Depends on what shooting guard replaces him. Maybe by then McCaw is a legit player. Or they bring in some ring chasing but still very good vet (like the Cavs are doing with Wade). So 95% chance maybe drops to 60% then.

I don't think you realize just how much the escalating luxury tax will hurt in 2 years, if they have to add a 3rd near-max deal. And then what, do a 4th for Draymond? Just don't see it.

No, I realize.

They will be paying over 400 million. I think it is possible.

This was just an idea I wanted to throw out there.

First off, I want to say at this point that I believe there's a strong likelihood that George ends up with the Lakers in 2018. While the Carmelo trade helps their cause in a big way, there is still too many flaws on this OKC roster for George to overlook the idea of playing for his hometown team.

All that being said, Klay Thompson is set to be a free agent in 2019, assuming he doesn't agree to an extension before then. Let's say GS wins their 4th title of the decade in 2019 and is completely cap-strapped by then, might there be some motivation on Klay's part to play for his dad's old team and for a new challenge?

And if you're the Lakers, and assuming that KCP is the one-year rental he's said to be, isn't SG your biggest position of need? Wouldn't moving Ingram out of position to accommodate George possibly stunt his development?

Not sure how realistic this idea is, but it does make more sense for the Lakers as well as the league in general for parity purposes.

On a more serious note - With Westbrook and Melo on the same team, PC13 may never get to the free throw line ever again. He might just be content to stand around behind the three-point line and wait for wide-open jumpers.

Move Ingram out of position?

:L

PG is most likely playing SG for OKC. And would for LAL also.

I agree with this. He's the guy they'd let go and think they can just plug in a shooter at his position.....

It's easy to say that but they don't play the games on paper. All it takes is a major injury to derail those 5 titles.

I hope the Lakers suck into the next century. Really suck. Like prono movie suck.

That's a very divisive statement.

Here on the NBA boards...we are all about love and inclusion.

I'd suggest that you sing along to this video and then try your post again.

Would need to be a shooter that could play D almost as well. They would be diminished but not by a whole lot if they find the right guy.

Sure.

But he asked why. That is the reason.

Besides, they are so good they would still be the favorite with a major injury to 1 player. That is the other reason to spend the money. If they lose Klay, an injury would derail them for sure.

But,

To get THAT guy, you would have to pay. Might as well pay Klay.

2, 3, 4?

Doesn't really matter. NBA is going positionless anyway. Ingram, George and LBJ together would be awesome even though they are all technically 3s.

I was actually a Lakers fan back in the day. I loved Jabbar and Worthy and Magic.

But that rapist Kobe turned me into a Warriors fan. That and Purvis Short. Loved that dude.
