I think in a couple weeks with Brown, Joeckle, Britt, Aboushi, Ifedi/Pocic the oline will be much improved. They might even make it to "middle of the pack" for Oline's.

Also no more WIFFS on running plays from the LT spot, those Wiffs have killed the Hawks repeatedly by Rees. I mean it's not a once or twice a game thing it's like six or seven times PER GAME.

Just imagine what Russ can do with an extra sec in the pocket. Kind of scary to think about.

So we think it's a given that he comes in and is immediately installed as the starter vs Redskins? I guess he likely will be, but it seems it will take at least a couple games to get fully worked in and comfortable. The next 4 are vs Redskins, at Cards, vs Falcons, at 49ers. I can't think we go worse than 3-1 there and a decent to good shot at winning all 4.

But the 4 after that look like quite a challenge: vs Philly, @ Jax, vs Rams, @ Dallas. Very hard to predict games so far out, but I might be ok with 2-2 in the pretty brutal stretch. Jags don't have much other than Fournette on O, but their D is no joke. And then we know what the LAR DL can do to us. Maybe that type of team isn't as much of a problem for us now, but hopefully by the time we get to these games we are better up front and maybe even have a smidge of a run game.

Think it’s a good bet that he is.

There's also a lot of wiggle room in the phrase "not great". It can mean anything from terrible to average to very good. I can't imagine they'd have traded for him if his run blocking ranged from below average to terrible, so he's gotta be somewhere in the average to very good range. Having a very good pass blocker/average to very good run blocker at left tackle is not something the Seahawks have enjoyed for a long time. He's a major upgrade and all it took was a couple of draft picks (something Schneider is very good at recouping on draft day) and a nickel corner whose job was tenuous anyway.

at 32 I dont think brown will last any further than his remaining current contract but we are all in this season and the Texans are planning for a very long run once tom brady retires and they can take over the AFC.

What I like is that Duane brings veteran leadership to this young Oline I hope our young guys can learn and grow from him especially george fant when he eventually gets healthy to play

Oh this signing wont fix's what ill's the hawks over night it will take a couple weeks or more. I feel comfortable saying 4 weeks before things settle down. I also feel even before then we will see MUCH BETTER play from the LT spot. No kidding right? lol

Heh.

No he's not Walter Jones.

But c'mon, it's pretty incredible that we can get ANY serviceable T's at this point in the season.

If I'm a fly on the wall, I wonder how much his stance on Bob McNair's comments play into this. Apparently Brown was... less than thrilled with the inmate statement.
Really thought this was our line for the year,so great to see a change. Im kinda in shock still...

Guess the Hawks finally got tired of seeing the door WIDE open on the backside. This is a nice piece to help the Oline that is for sure but they still have issues on the rightside. I love the move and now maybe Pocic, Rees, and Ifedi can fight it out for the rightside ( and maybe make each other play better? LOL )

I don't want Rees fighting it out for any side... He is just horrible... At least Pocic looked like a NFL OL yesterday...

Just watching the highlights of the Texas Seattle game, paying attention to number 76 LT ... Not once did I see him get beat, he was dominating, very smart picking up other blocks also, this guy is really good...

So it is Brown for Lane, a 5th in '18, and a 2nd in '19.

It seems like a bit of an overpay for a 32 year old in the last year of his deal. Certainly an all in manuver.

Any news of a contract extension? It might seem worth it if we can lock him up for a few years and backload the deal with the signing bonus so we can free up space while the D is still potent.

I'm pretty ecstatic about the cost actually.

Lane is simply getting rid of money and a guy who couldn't keep his job, then whined about it.
The 5th: Always a hit or miss round for teams, though we tend to do well there.
The 2nd: 2019 - This player is almost 3 years away from being a rookie. Who knows where this team is at that time. Where they are now is 1st place in the division and primed to make a push for a title.

Massively upgrading the worst position on the roster, and an important position at that, at the expense of future unknown properties is well worth it for me.

I read somewhere that Ifedi has not given up a sack this season. He has given up a bunch of pressures but no sacks. He needs to get the penalties in control but otherwise he's been getting better.

His current contract goes through 2018 according to overthecap.

I agree the cost wasn't bad, but a 2019 pick is less than 2 years away from being a rookie.

For me, this team will be facing some serious transition by 2019. Guys like Kam, Sherm, and Earl will be declining if not already retired. Bennett almost certainly will be retired by then.

The one guy we can reliably count on to be in 2019 is Russ. As long as we keep him upright.

IMO, I don't think the team has given up on George Fant. He could still be the starting LT by 2019 but this gives him time to recover.

That is very encouraging.

We just need our DL to get more pressure. Can't leave our secondary covering guys for 6 seconds.

Wilson converted $6.26 million of salary to bonus, prorated it over remaining three years. Bonus payable immediately. Created $4.1M of room.
