So, Ortiz is on a "secret" suspension that only MLB and Ortiz know about? Is that what you(and the author of that blog entry) are going with?
There is no need for a "secret suspension" when the CBA at the time didn't call for a suspension after a first failed test.

So, why would he be in some drug treatment program then if there was no penalty? That article was pure nonsense.

So, he stopped using in 2007 and then picked it back up in 2014?

He probably took them all along but it's not out of the question he stopped for a while. And let's not forget he had Manny protecting him. Strange that his power should increase with no one like that to protect him.

The guy that outted Clemens said he stopped after the 1998 season and started again late in the 2000 season. The facts seem to fit that because he sucked in 1999 and the first half of 2000. Then he caught fire, beaned Piazza and had the bat throwing incident.

I agree. Clemens was definitely dirty.

That's the NFL program. Richardson on the Jets got caught 4 times before the announcement with the suspension came out. 1st time is a program. 2nd time fine, 3rd time bigger fine, 4th time 4 game suspension

Holy shit you really aren't getting it.

From the Wikipedia article on the history of MLB's drug testing:

"This program replaced the previous steroid testing program under which, for example, no player was even suspended in 2004. Under the old policy, which was established in 2002, a first-time offense would only result in treatment for the player, and the player would not be named."

Yet he never failed a test and won in Federal court. But I agree, he was a roider. Bonds never failed a test, still a roider.

You can't argue with Boston fans. Brady didn't cheat and Papi is clean as the driven snow. Hell, even Manny was railroaded. Until he got caught after he left Boston

OK. And that "treatment" would last for the next 12 years(presumably)?

Bonds was linked to BALCO. Clemens had McNamee. Arod had Biogenesis. Ortiz had a bunch of conjecture.

Oy. Don't get me started on the Brady thing. That entire witch hunt was a waste of everyone's time.

And yet in Federal court McNamee and Balco didn't hold up against Bonds and Clemens. You seem to be glossing over the fact Ortiz did indeed fail a test in 2003.

On that we agree. But at the end of the day they did cheat. Should have been $25,000 a ball as the rule book specifies but it was still "technically" cheating.

I am not glossing over that at all. 2003 is a long time ago. He's had a full career since then and I haven't heard anybody name him in any way since. I also never heard what he failed for the first time.

Yup. It should have been treated the same as the Chargers using "sticky towels" or the Vikings "heating up balls on the sideline". Probably the same as the Colts and Falcons pumping in fake crowd noise, too, but somehow this one became a National obsession. We can't get those wasted 8 months back....

I disagree about the wasted months, all of Rock's threads were priceless.

HA! True. He was responsible for about 70% of the traffic on this site over that period.

He was 50% of the national obsession all by himself. I can't wait for the appeal so he can fire off another 10,872 more threads a week on the subject. If we can get an inner city "community" to riot the same week we'll all have to take time off of work just to keep up

He's had 35 and 37 HR's in 2014 and 2015, the most since 35 in the 2007 season.

By this same analysis, Arod, coming off a year long suspension for roids, is, according to you, back on the roids?

And just so you know my position. I believe Ortiz used roids at some point in his career. I have no idea whether he's currently using whether he never stopped using. I just reject knee jerk statistical analysis as "evidence" that's he's definitely doing something.
