Since Boise went FBS in 1996, they have had two undefeated seasons (in 2006 and in 2009) and blown several others like the "game winning," chip shot field goals that were attempted against Nevada in 2010 and TCU in 2011 with no time left in regulation. Obviously they were not really ever truly in contention for national championships despite their high rankings over the years due to schedule strength.

So, yeah...

Nebraska could have done the same in 1983 in the Orange Bowl against Miami. Instead they went for 2 and the pass got tipped away.

Osborne said he never even considered going for the tie.
