1. Which team holds the record for the lowest preseason ranking in the coaches poll and ended up winning the national championship?

2. On a more subjective level, what team won a national championship that you felt had no chance in hell at the beginning of the season?

In the BCS era? I think Auburn is the answer to #1 and they'd be my answer to the second question.

Not sure on question #1 Auburn is right I think they started at #22 and moved up.

The next biggest climb I can think of was Oklahoma who started #19 in the preseason polls the year they won the National Championship in 2000.

Was wondering if Oklahoma was the team.

Auburn is the answer in the BCS era. Before that Georgia Tech(1990), BYU(1984), Miami(1983) and Clemson(1981) were all unranked entering the season.

Nobody thought BYU would win a NC.
