Cashman wasn't given for reins until 2005. Georgie made home more of a figurehead than a GM.

Even if we give credit or Cashman for the titles before he was given full control it was at a different time. Things have changed the team's can fill their rosters. Cashman is making clear he has to change something to get back to his glory days.

Theo took a team, tore it to the ground and turned them into World Series champions all while Cashman was making 200 million dollar failures.
Cashman still owns more World Series wins. That's the bottom line.

Not in a what have you done for me lately world. Cashman is old news. Theo is new school and kicking ass.

All teams have won the AL East in the last 9 years. The 9 years before that it was just the Yankees.

When Epstein gets 4 World Series wins I'll admit he's as good as Cashman.

We'll see which is better.

There's no doubt that what Epstein has done with the Red Sox and Cubs is impressive and I do think he's one of the brightest GMs in baseball and maybe the best.

However, in the eighteen years from '95-'12, the Yankees won their division 13 times, the AL pennant 7 times and a championship 5 times. That's damn impressive too, regardless of what they were spending.

The front office game has changed dramatically in the last 10-15 years in baseball. I believe we've seen Cashman make some adjustments to his strategy, and interested to see if those adjustments payoff. I think he's an extremely talented baseball exec.

Right now, I'm thinking that the Cubs and Yankees are going to be the teams to beat in their respective leagues for the next five years or so.

If those 2 teams start meeting in some future Serles or two, they're going to break the damn TV with viewers.

Look saying the obvious truth that Epstein is now the top legend GM doesn't actually diminish Cashman. Symbolically maybe but in the facts of how good a GM that guy is? Nope. Cashman is LEGIT. He has been the best in the business. Up to now.

Theo took two perennial losers and got both over the hump. .

Let's not act like the Sox were a 65 win team when Theo became GM....they averaged over 89 wins the 5 seasons before before he became GM.

Buying all the free agents took no skills. Now he has to compete with other teams willing and able to buy thus exposing his shitty scouting ability and decision making.

Wow you mean a full 8 games over .500??

Why don't you list all the teams that were 8 games over .500 (on average) during that 5 year stretch?

Because that would be meaningless. He turned around a franchise that thought they were cursed by the Bambino into one with arrogance and entitlement.

Translation: listing those teams would hurt my case in trying to show that they were not a good team.

Here's a hint on how many there were: you could count all the teams with more wins than the Sox from 1998-2002 on one hand.

Your argument here is almost as silly as your claim that Molina had a 'steady progression' instead of getting significantly better over a short time.
