So basically what Dallas wanted from the start.

Wednesday morning, the Cowboys and Elliott agreed to a whopping six-year, $90 million contract that includes $50 million guaranteed and an average salary of $15 million. It appears at first glance that the team did go against Jones' wishes and set the market with the extension, but there are other factors in play that could ultimately benefit the Cowboys instead of Zeke down the road. The initial total value of the contract currently sits at eight years and $103 million when combined with the remaining time on Zeke's rookie deal, and yet Dallas could realistically cut the deal short after four years and only give up $50 million.

So now who caved?

Jerry Jones did. Zeke got $50 million guaranteed. More than Gurley.

correct....not likely he will ever be the highest paid player as so many are reporting.

Today he signed the contract that was the largest in history for a RB.

Paying a RB is always stupid. So, criticism is more than fair and even warranted.

Especially a back who isn't elite in pass catching. Finishing 24th, unqualified (suspension) and 19th in yards per route run each of his three seasons.

Not to mention that advanced metrics strongly imply that the Cowboys run game isn't as strong as it should be with their O-line and that Zeke isn't nearly as good as most believe. He was 35th last season in Elusive Rating which is simply a combination of forced missed tackles and yards after contract/forced missed tackles.

The Cowboys averaged a negative -0.02 per Zeke run (-0.04 including playoffs). Dallas RB's performed 12th overall by this metric as a team. Which correlates offensive line performance with RB performance. (Expected Points Added)

Elliot is an above average running or "good" back masquerading as a perennial all-pro. Who shouldn't even be paid this money IF he was as good as advertised.

INB4 "LOL at advanced metrics because football is surely the only sport that archaic fans can continue denying advanced metrics for!"

Do you realize part of that guarantee includes the money he was already going to be paid in 2019 and 20? He got around 37M in additional guaranteed money.

He's easily cuttable after 2022 making this basically a 4 year 50M deal.

correct.....the same posters would be jabbing their stick if Dallas didn't sign Zeke. Haters will hate regardless.

Dallas is happy, Zeke is happy and most Dallas fans are happy...fuck it!

Largest contract, but he is not the highest paid player.

No he signed the contract. You want to try really hard to argue semantics but today he signed the largest contract for the highest pay for a RB in league history.

It's not semantics. His deal kicks in 2-3 years from now. He is not the highest paid RB right now. Thinking might not even be top 20 this season. Will he be in 2-3 years? Maybe. But just as likely someone is getting more by then and he might be asking for a new deal.

as I asked earlier - If your boss gives you a raise starting in 2-3 years to slightly more than the highest paid guy in your company makes now are you NOW the highest paid guy in the company?

He signed the largest contract for a RB in the sport's history today. And you're trying to argue semantics about it being an extension that doesn't kick in for two years.

Yep....top rusher 2 outta 3 years will do that in today's market

Yeah I'm not knocking the contract. I have been saying it all thread, it is the contract he deserves and it is the contract he was always going to get. He is the 2nd best RB in the league and a Hall of Fame talent that will go to the HoF if he stays healthy enough for a long career.

I think you'll be sad when you see the details.

Horrible. Jerry caved.

Best case scenario is that Elliott gets cut in 2025 and the team saves $30 million in annual salary for the last couple of years. There's dead money if they cut in 2023 or 24, but it's way too frontloaded.

Ezekiel Elliott

6.7M dead money if cut pre 2023. I'm thinking this won't hinder a decision.

$6.7M isn't too much if you've already paid out most of the contract in guaranteed money.
It would end up being a 4 year 50M contract.

I'll agree I wanted years 5 and 6 to be heavier salary wise, but this contract gets him into camp at a fair price
