I tend to side with zeke on this. Running backs are being devalued in football these days, particularly first-round draft picks. Teams essentially run them into the ground and have the flexibility to avoid a major payday with a fifth-year option and up to two franchise tags.

He's arguably the best RB in football, and is involved in something crazy like 90% of the teams offensive snaps.

How does this end?

I think Jerry shows Zeke who is in charge and Zeke caves. But I also think Jerry knows that without Zeke his QB will be exposed as below average and Dallas is looking at 8-8. But mostly I don't think about it as I don't care or follow the Cowboys at all. I'm voting potato salad.

The options are too shortsighted.

The Cowboys never said they won't sign Zeke this year. The only way signing him is "Jerry caving" would be if Jerry gives him exactly what he is asking for. If Zeke signs for what the Cowboys are offering then it is Zeke caving. If they split the difference in some way that it is just both agreeing to a deal that both are happy with and both have wanted all along. If he isn't signed by week 1 (unless it's basically agreed to and just not officially signed) then the rules totally change and either the Cowboys crash and burn early and give in or Zeke basically is told to stay home and report when you are ready to sign our deal or honor your contract. Most likely the latter

My guess is a deal is either done by week 1 or is close enough to being done that Zeke reports in good faith by week 1 and it by week 3 or so

Pretty much what @jarntt said from me. They will work an extension out in between what's asked and offered at the last minute. I can't see Zeke pushing this for a whole season.

Better sign him before the idle time gets him in trouble again.

And make sure you can cut him if he fucks up, gets hurt or his production drops.

I have visions of another Dez Bryant.

Elliott will have a new deal by mid-October after the Cowboys drop a few games they otherwise probably wouldn't have.

jerry is pissed, rightfully so. If I were Jerry I'd just call Zeke's agent and tell them I pulled the offer. Zeke will report before PS game 4 and if he stays healthy and productive and has no run ins with the law until next training camp we will look at an extension. But the offer I made is now gone and he can report and play under his current contract, minus the no-show fines, or he can sit and pout. There will be no further contract offers until he shows he is willing to work to earn it.

I think Jerry caves on this even though Zeke has zero leverage. I think Zeke is willing to sit out a year and let the Cowboys see what it would be like to not have him for a whole season. He did not report by August 6th so he gets not accrue a season this year toward free agency. I don't think he has any intention of playing for another team so losing that season credit probably is unimportant for him.

Jerry didn't cave to Emmitt when we started 0-2, he won't cave to Zeke when we start 3-0.
this -
with the giants, skins n phins
for the 1st three games,
zeke wont have any leverage
if he continues to hold out -

Unless I mistaken Jerry caved when the Cowboys went 0-2 without Emmitt.

I agree about his not caving to Zeke early in the season. I think Zeke needs to miss a good portion of time before Jerry caves but in the end I think he will.

My only concern is that Fitzpatrick usually is solid for about 3 games a year and we get him in game 3. Then he shits the bed.

You are mistaken. Emmitt wanted to get paid like a QB and Jerry said no. After 0-2 Emmitt signed the deal Jerry offered which still made him I think the highest paid RB but not the money he was after.

Cowboys better hope this Amari injury they are trying to play down really doesn't keep him out of any games or limit him.

No Amari or Zeke in week 1 and the Cowboys will have to win via defensive scores off of Eli turnovers. Otherwise I can't see Dak without Cooper and Elliott being able to produce more yards and points than Barkley.

what year was it that emmit sat out, the cowboys went like 0-2, they signed him, and they went on to win the SB? 93?

How can you say they are playing the Cooper injury down. They have said the exact same thing since day 1:

August 26th: "Cowboys announce Amari Cooper has foot amputated"...

Maybe he'll co star with Daniel Day Lewis in My Left Foot 2?
