So basically what Dallas wanted from the start.

Wednesday morning, the Cowboys and Elliott agreed to a whopping six-year, $90 million contract that includes $50 million guaranteed and an average salary of $15 million. It appears at first glance that the team did go against Jones' wishes and set the market with the extension, but there are other factors in play that could ultimately benefit the Cowboys instead of Zeke down the road. The initial total value of the contract currently sits at eight years and $103 million when combined with the remaining time on Zeke's rookie deal, and yet Dallas could realistically cut the deal short after four years and only give up $50 million.

I don't know how this can be perceived as a non-cave. A few weeks back he was being offered a "top 5" contract and you Cowboys fans were saying Zeke has no leverage and Jerry wouldn't/shouldn't make him the highest paid running back and call his bluff and let him sit.

Zeke got his highest paid RB deal that he was aiming for.
Of course you are going on rumor. Stephen said in February the Gurley contract would be the floor and they would go form there. Just like the reports that Dak is demanding $40M which is silly.

To your credit you have been expecting Zeke to get his deal, you just didn't think he should and the Cowboys move on from him.

Other Cowboys fans here though in this thread very strongly believed Zeke would not get this deal and he had no real leverage so there was no way Jerry would do it. That it would be Zeke taking a less amount and caving, not the other way around.

That said, Dak is absolutely shooting for highest paid QB contract.

Not $40M. If he signs in the next week it will be in between $30M and $35M. Wentz was around 32 or 32.5 and Goff was around 33.5? I'm guessing he will be right around those two. Probably a little higher than Wentz. Not sure if higher or equal to Goff.

If he doesn't sign until after the year I have no guess as what he'll get because too much can happen between now and then including both other QBs contracts and Dak's/the Cowboy's performance.

I don't think he's getting $40M but I do think he's getting at least the Russell Wilson $35M. Maybe something like $35.5M to give him that top deal.

Zeke will never be the highest paid RB. Largest contract? Yes, but that contract doesn't kick in for a couple years.

If your boss gives you a raise starting in 2-3 years to slightly more than the highest paid guy in your company makes now are you now the highest paid guy in the company?

Oh...and no raise for 6 years.

That is how extensions work.

Maybe he did cave. I want to see the details before I say that. I won't say it is a cave if the contract is just a puff piece to let Zeke feel good but he will never see the top dollars of the deal.

I read this in interest until I saw Clay Travis' name on it. Interesting - none the less.

I don't understand what he has done to eclipse Russell Wilson money, but the league continues to pay more for the QB's (and rightfully so).

Eh, what have Wentz or Cousins done to be top 5? Nothing. But it's their turn.
