Keep an eye on what happens to Pablo Sandoval. His next contract will set the bar for third basemen for the next couple of years. Pablo will likely get at least $16 million a year.

When the time comes, will the Mariners be willing to pay Kyle his market value? If Sandoval is worth $16 million a year then I'd think Kyle would be worth at least $18 million on the open market and perhaps as much as $20 million.

The Mariners control his contract for three more years. It's easy to sweep this under the carpet as a current non-issue. But, I don't see it as a non-issue. I think they need to engage his agent and, at a minimum, show Seagar's camp that they have long-term aspirations for a relationship with kyle. Other than Felix, the Mariners haven't been in this position in a long time. And they haven't developed a position player as good as Seagar since...well, since Alex Rodriguez and Ken Junior. And you saw what happened to those guys.

Interesting. I hope he continues his upward trajectory. And honestly I think he will. Very happy with how he's developed unlike basically every other hitting prospect since Arod.......

The way baseball salaries are going, your probably right in terms of money. No excuse not to pay him. The Mariners are making money hand over fist.

You realize the mythical "100 million dollar" payroll mark has been around for ten years now? Do you know how much more money baseball makes in 2014 then they did in 2004?

Spend your damn money mariners.

I am all for keeping Seager around. I think if you want to sign him long term then you do it as soon as possible. With every passing season the price tag on him will continue to climb so long as he continues to perform.

That being said i wouldn't be surprised at all if the Mariners waited until his final year then fail to sign him and he ends up elsewhere.

A lot can happen over the course of 3 seasons especially the price of comparable players. I doubt we will be using Pablo Sandoval's contract from 2015 as a benchmark for a player in 2018.

seager is the first guy since griffey the m's have developed who i will follow closely even when he's moved along.

i'm be all for trading him in the next couple of years if we had somebody competent at the helm to broker it. however, if nintendo is willing to get into the payroll game with the big boys, then i'm all for signing him long term.

Happy for Seager and the M's if this goes through.

Hope it isn't the only quality signing this offseason, though.

It looks like the M's wised up and realized that they should probably keep the one hitting prospect that they've managed to develop into a good major league hitter in the last 20 years before Felix-type rumors started coming fast and furious. I'm sure everybody here remembers the seemingly endless articles, both local and national, practically begging the Mariners to trade Felix to the Yankees until he signed his most recent contract. It would have happened on a smaller scale with Seager, but it would have happened.

This is what a real organization does. Drafts a guy, develops him, then extends him through his best playing years.

The timing on this deal couldnt be more perfect and seems great for both sides. Waiting another year could have made this alot more pricey. Maybe not the 1st move we all wanted to see but arguably the most important. Take care of your own and hopefully it goes a little bit towards making this place more desirable.

Was caught off guard by this, great move by the Mariners. 7 years $100m is a bargain. Seager should fire his agent, he could've leveraged the Mariners for a lot more.

I dont know about that.... he's not a FA for 3 years.....

He went and locked up 100 million.... could he of gotten more? Sure he could of went to arbitration the next three years.... or he could of gotten hurt and never hit FA.

100 million bucks is the hand is worth how many in the bush?

Nice job, Mariners. Love Kyle Seager. He'll be one of the faces of the franchise like Felix is.
