What did John Daly do when the original Dream Team wasn’t playing up to his standards? He brought in a select team to challenge them and get after it.

Same principle applies here. You replace the rising stars game with a “Next 24”. They are the AS snubs and the next best players by conference. 24 players, 12 each conference.

On Friday night you have a bracket style game. Next 24 East vs East AS, Next 24 West vs West AS. Shorten the Friday night game to first team to 75 wins. Winners play on Sunday.

The next 24 are gonna get after it to show they deserve to be there or put the AS on notice. The AS teams won’t want to lose. Sunday could potentially still be bad if both AS teams make it but at least they might have some competitive juices flowing. And if a next 24 makes it against the AS team in a real game Sunday game, that would be fireworks.

Don’t think teams will want their top guys playing 2x over the weekend when this is supposed to be a break from the grind of the nba regular season

I mean I like the logic to make it more competitive but the AS game has never been competitive other than a tight game in the final minutes. Now in today's league they care even less about it and don't want to risk injury. I highly doubt guys will want to compete in a meaningless game to prove something. Their goal of winning a championship is the only real prize.

Not sure this is a problem that needs fixing. It's a break for the players, and the fans too. Then we get back to games that matter,

Nostalgia for past ASGs is not super accurate, not like those past games were super intense must see TV, so what if they try for one quarter? You get one quarter of sort of effort, so what?

The only difference was there was a difference competitive nature in the final minutes IF IT WAS A CLOSE GAME. We would sometimes see 1-on-1 matchups that were competitive for a couple times down the floor but in the end were all in fun. We saw guys competing to get the MVP. We don't see much of that anymore so I get it. I would watch it years ago...I have no interest now

Sure I remember when Magic Johnson played his final one and guys took turns facing off with him one on one (MJ, Isaiah Thomas, etc)

But not a big loss

Here’s the fix:

Don’t play the game.

That’s never happening though because it makes the league money. Either accept that it’s an exhibition and it has always been an exhibition or just take a weekend off from NBA basketball.

I agree 100% I’m sure teams wouldn’t want to play there best guys twice in a weekend

John Daly should have been the coach. Him, Jordan and Barkley would have never left the course.

Might've fixed Barkleys messed up golf swing earlier too.

All I know is I was confused as hell trying to figure out how John Daly got credit for the dream team.
