The worst part about the catcher problem is the Sox had a possible in-house solution in Swihart. And they fucked with him.

Probably has something to do with Didi being 27.

I don't think he wouldve ever been a Major League catcher.

And now he can't run from here to there without destroying his ankles.

Hopefully he can find a position that suits him and get healthy, because he can hit.

I'm not really all that upset about the sox catchers. They can both throw runners out and both are hitting .240 or better. Be nice if Vazquez had ANY power, but I think the Sox knew they were going to be more of the defense minded catchers. Both seem to call good games and work with the starters well.

Problem is 3rd and as I feared when they signed him, despite his hot start, Moreland is really rather blah with the bat.

Vazquez and Leon have been some of the better pitch framers in MLB, so there's that.

StatCorner Catcher Report

Leon was actually hitting pretty decently in May (.275/.339/.490) and June (.295/.347/.432), but his overall stat line is dragged down by an awful April (.180/.196/.280). He has been in a bit of a slump as of late, but he's only got 28 plate appearances this month. Leon won't repeat his 2016 line, but I don't see why he can't post an OPS+ around 95-100.

but but 1 of the experts on here said jays had the best rotation in the east:suds:

I did think the Jays had a good rotation that would keep them in the postseason hunt, but a lot has gone poorly. Sanchez has been hurt and has looked more like pre-2016 Sanchez when he has been on the mound. The BABIP gods have finally come for Estrada. Happ has missed some starts and Liriano is just garbage. Doesn't help that Donaldson missed a good month or so and the lineup outside of Smoak's been bad.

2015 Jays position players: 37.9 WAR (knew it was high, but damn)
2016 Jays position players: 24.0 WAR
2017 Jays position players: 4.4 WAR (5.1 come from Smoak and Pillar lol)

The Jays offense really fell off a cliff with Encarnacion leaving last winter and Bautista feeling the effects of Father Time. Martin's still a decent catcher, but not what he was a few years ago. Sucks to see Tulo playing so crappy, he was a damn good player (and not just because of Coors, his career road stats still would have made him one of the best shortstops in the league). I love that Colabello has gone from hitting .321/.367/.520 and getting suspended two years ago to hitting .225/.323/.336 in AAA.

Fister has to be released shortly, right? Unless they want him to be long relief.

I don't think anyone should make a claim that Xander and Didi aren't having very similar seasons. Didi has the advantage in slugging while Xander has the advantage in OBP. But looking at the game in the vacuum of one season to determine who are the best young players is cherry picking.

Last 3 years:
Xander: .304/.355/.434/.789, 109 OPS+, 110 wRC+, 34 HR, 212 RBI, 250 runs, 64% "extra base taken", -0.1 UZR/150

Didi: .276/.314/.423/.737, 95 OPS+, 97 wRC+ 41 HR, 168 RBI, 163 runs, 42% "extra base taken", 4.0 UZR/150

And that's Xander from age 22-24 while that's Didi from age 25-27

Bogaerts has the 4th most WAR among SS (11.6) since the beginning of 2015 behind only Lindor (13.0), Seager (13.0) and Correa (12.3)

I love Bogaerts, but unless he starts hitting more fly balls, I don't think he'll be getting much better. Not that being a 4+ WAR shortstop is a bad thing.

I dont love Didi as a player at all, he bothers me

There is more an indictment on a player i think gets a little too much love
