I read about the record on M-Live and that was my first thought. I couldnt decide whether it spoke more of how good Stafford is, or how bad the Lions have been. Then it also makes me wonder just how great Bobby Lane really was that his record will be broken by a guy with around three seasons worth of games under his belt. Was he really a great QB or do we just see him as great because he was the best we ever had?

Anyway, I think the Lions are going to stick with the single back set, and therefore will still be a lopsided, pass heavy offense. But I also think the defense will be much better and it will help give the Lions better field position and cut down on the yards Stafford gets every game. The better running game (not good but better) will also take away some yards. I see it happening in week 12.

The game has changed plenty. From all outdoors, twelve games a season, part time careers that were supplemented with regular jobs in the off season, to a true enterprise. Of course, the numbers will be way different.

What made Bobby the Detroit QB is that we were winners with him. Champions. No one else has done that since we traded him away.

The time for change is upon us.

The problem with the run game isn't just because there isn't a lead blocker. Due to the fact that the majority of all offensive snaps are from shotgun means that the majority of run plays are either draws or predictable. Hard to get a groove when the defense can read run nearly every time you run it.

Not to mention the fact that the RB's were trying to effectively run a draw behind the interior of our previous O-line. A+B=Fucked

Stop making sense. This isn't the BIG 10 where the bigger and fatter you are and 3 yards and a cloud of dust prevails.

It did in the 50s and 60's.....Times change so did the game. Sure a run game can help but a FB isn't the answer in todays NFL.

As I like to point out. Look at last year. They ran a lot of shotgun or single back sets. So when they put in Reiff as a lead blocker, it made the run very predictable. Yet with that bad blocking line and making it predictable, those were consistently our best runs of the game every week.

Showing run on the unusual play we use a lead blocker definitely hurts the run, but yet it was still successful on those plays. So imagine if we used a FB in the majority of plays and the defense didnt know when it was coming! Imagine doing that with a fast RB finally!

I hope you realize the Lions are not going to have a FB. They will use a TE or extra OL in sets. Has not been in this regimes thought process. Does not mean they cannot win.

You complain a lot about the single back set.

Schlishenger isn't coming back anytime soon.

What do you want?

Full backs in the new NFL are as useful as a Special teams specialist.

So what do you really want? 400 pound Olineman with a 300 pound FB?......I don't get it. 2 yards of fat body won't get you anywhere in today's NFL.

We have a FB- his name is Michael Williams. He's technically an "H-back" but that position is the new FB in the NFL for all intents and purposes. An H-back can line up as a lead-blocking FB, an in-line blocking TE, or run routes like a TE.

His responsibilities are a bit greater, but as far as a roster spot goes an H-back is a FB. He does all the lead blocking stuff you want in a FB, plus he can drop down in the slot or cover up a tackle. Basically, the advantage is that he makes our offense far less predictable and harder to game plan for. With a traditional FB the defensive coordinator knows what to expect when he takes the field- a lead blocker who will line up in a two back set and occasionally catch a pass. With an H-back the d-coordinator has to decide if that guy is going in to line up as a FB or TE, which makes it harder for him to decide what personnel to match up with.

So if you want a lead blocker, you're in luck. If you just plain want a FB, you're shit outta luck!

Last year Adrian Peterson averaged 3.9 yards per carry more when he had a FB in there. He only has 1 run of over 20 yards without one. From Jerome Felton no less, I don't recall him being all that great when he was here, but a huge difference was made all the same.

How many Yards did ponder throw for? That should answer your question.

Lions are not built that way and don't expect it this year.

Hate the scheme.....We are not set up to be 150 yard team rushing.

Get over it.

Jump on board with the 5000 yard passing team because that's what we are.

I'll toss this little tid bit in here. Bush didn't come to Detroit to carry the ball.....He came here to catch it.......

Sorry fellas......He will be used as a glorified slot WR. Lehsoure and Bell will handle the duties inside.

The argument that the Lions are a pass first team is very different the your argument of a FB being useless in today NFL. I agree the Lions are a pass first and then pass second team, my point was FB have all kinds of use, we just don't use them.

My point was that they're not useless, but they are being phased out by a more versatile player...

Houston really set the mold the last couple seasons with James Casey, imo. A guy that can play FB and TE effectively has much more value to an offensive coordinator than a guy who can only play FB...

I vote never. He gets hurts week 2, you guys give up three first rounders for Tebow, he goes 0 for 400 for the rest of the season, and we use that number one overall pick for a fun toy.

Don't forget that Montel Owens also plays some FB.

Between he and Williams we have the necessary players to run a two back set if the coaches desire to...

I will be the fullback. I once watched a football game, it looks easy enough.
