Al Woods going out makes our defense atrocious
That’s the thing about the 3-4, you need dam good line-man and DAM good linebackers.. It can be a very effective defense with the right personnel

Well, this is a game Geno should shoulder a lot of the blame for this loss.. We've saying this season that he hasn't lost us a game... He finally has put us into that position...
Allowing 222 yards on the ground... don't let the awful defense off the hook 'cause Geno was mediocre today.

Well I guess the good thing is Carolina winning means they wont get a draft pick higher than ours... This team should be drafting QB/DL/DL/DL/DL/ILB/ILB/ILB this draft.
Even after this game by Geno, I'd still give him an extension and punt on drafting a QB because he'd likely get 3 years and it would be a shame to waste a high draft pick on a QB when they'd be sitting on the bench for 3 years in all likelihood. Too much DL/edge talent in this draft.

Not going to allow that but Geno had a horrible game today... He's lucky he didn't throw 5 picks...

Walker is likely out or limited, but pretty simple strategy here:

1) Keep Barton on the field for <= 35 snaps.
2) Do not do the stupid 2-4-5.
3) Do not sell so hard on the run you're getting destroyed by sweeps or Darnold taking off.

Do 1-3 and Seattle should win this rather easily. Naturally that means we'll see Barton for 60 snaps, Seattle will run 33% of their snaps as 2-4-5, miss tackles and ignore sweeps and let Darnold run for 30-50 (which is basically all he's good for), and Seattle will either win or lose this game 27-24.

Shark you are the most brilliant person in the forum. I understand some moderators (HMPH) get a little huffy with you, but you understand football better than basically everyone here!

This game was depressing... We had our shot to keep our WC spot this weekend...

In theory the 2-4-5 can be a great defensive base scheme but you need a very specific skill set from each player to effectively run it.

1st Pick was a fairly bad read by him, but a REALLY good read by Horn, who saw what was happening and shifted off his receiver. 2nd Pick had no business being allowed to stand on 3 players offsides for what should have been a free play. Horn's 2nd could have been INT was a really good play by him. Geno was certainly not good today, but if the defense plays moderately competently, we still win.

I completely agree with that...

Agreed.

My buddy asked me what happened and I just said it was a great play by Horn. He was covering Metcalf and immediately broke off the route when he saw Geno release to Lockett who was open when Geno threw the ball. Honestly just an excellent play by Horn on that first pick.

Totally get it 234 and I honestly love your football insight, I consider you one of the more knowledgeable folks in the forum.

That said, and please feel free to critique me on this opinion: WE DO NOT HAVE THE PERSONNEL TO RUN IT EFFECTIVELY. Ugh. I get we went and got Nwosu and Harris, but everything else is suited for a 4-3... 2 does not make a complete transition. It infuriates me we're running a 3-4 this year.. and preseason 100% showed that we weren't ready for it. Ugh.

Well, that'll make the score look closer than it was.
