Game Thread: Panthers at Seahawks Week 3

Friday so might as well start the game thread. Should be interesting, on paper Seattle should win this game, but the Panthers can stop the pass. Although that leads to point 2 below.

Few key points:

1. Looks like we'll face off against Andy Dalton/Young is out.
2. Jaycee Horn (one of their best defenders) is on IR and out.
3. Jamal Adams will play, Diggs and Love are uncertain...
4. I think Cross is gonna be down for several weeks if it really is turf toe and with Lucas on IR I guess Peters may start? Curhan and Forsythe didn't play terrible last week.
5. Metcalf/Lewis/Mafe really didn't practice but that may be smoke and mirrors.

Hopefully Panthers are stupid enough to pick heads for the opening coin toss. It is for sure going to be tails. Book it!

I'm 0-2 picking the Seahawks this year so I won't say anything that'll make me look stupid.

Last year's loss to Carolina was probably the worst of the year, and dropping this one would feel pretty close to that.

Having Dalton out there probably helps them more than us. You want to play Bryce Young to get him developed for the long term, but Dalton is a better play present tense due to experience.

Carolina has a really good front 7, but their OL is weak. This could be a low scoring defensive struggle.

It sounds like they "want to be safe" with him or in other words he isn't ready. Pete was kicking it around that they might sit him and when someone has been injured that normally means they are not ready yet but Pete doesn't want to call it out and keeping it a game time decision is better for the team.

Hard to say without understanding where the ball is, # of TOs left for both teams, how good my running game is, how good their run D is, same about passing game, am I home vs away, weather considerations, etc. I mean, if Michael Penix is my QB and I have UW's WRs, I think I feel pretty good about throwing it right now in any situation if we aren't in the middle of a hurricane. Stuff like this is as much art as it is science.

Sounds like in that scenario, passing still milks almost 3 minutes off the clock. Probably the right strategy as you would need at least one first down anyway with that much time. There really isn't a wrong strategy there. It's more about simple execution.

Anyway, back to the game thread. I ain't predicting shit because it is sure to backfire. I just hope the team plays a solid, clean game all around. Geno will need to get the ball out quickly. The Panthers front is much better than Detroits. The RBs need to get some chunk runs too. I'm not happy Dalton is playing. He seems to play well in Seattle if memory serves. But they have nothing for talent to throw to so hopefully, our DBs can have a good day. We also should be able to generate a pass rush but they will likely come out running the ball so we need to shut that down first. Need a big day from Mafe, Brooks and Wagz for that and let Nwosu and company get after Dalton and hopefully get some mistakes from him. Turnover battle likely decides this game. Hopefully Myers has a clean day kicking. Also hoping ST can give us good field position a couple of times in the return game. I'm thinking there will be a few punts today.

Yah it's getting fuckin' ridiculous at this point. Brooks comes back from an ACL that happened at the end of last season and has actually IMPROVED so far lol. Meanwhile Adams has been out for over a year, and didn't he end 2021 with an injury as well? lol, Jesus Christ.
