I have always found it strange we disregard QB and WR stats based on "the era they played in" but we don't do that for any other positions . Why don't we dismiss sacks? INTs? Tackles? Seems if you are saying teams run more plays and pass more then all those stats are skewed as well.
Even Jim Plunkett may be a bit too generous a comparison.
Ok that's fair but we tend to only "put WR and QB stats into context ". When was the last time you heard someone play down sack numbers or tackle numbers based on era?Putting stats into context is not disregarding them. All stats should be put into context.
Hmm I've never once seen that. Maybe I just am missing itIt's pretty commonly accepted that there are more sacks and INT's nowadays, due to increased passing. I see people acknowledging that all of the time.
That's not true about sacks. They've decreased dramatically. There were 100 more sacks in 1983 than there were last year, and that's with 4 fewer teams. It's pretty commonly accepted that there are more sacks and INT's nowadays, due to increased passing. Hell, I was bringing up how it is essentially happy talk to get to 25 sacks just a couple weeks ago. If a healthy Justin Houston, Von Miller, or Watt haven't done it- I am near convinced nobody is reaching that- let alone the goofball number of 30.When Jared Allen was on the verge of breaking the single season sack record, people talked about it a lot. As have they in recent years when it's been in jeopardy. This was also discussed quite a bit when the Seahawks secondary set the team INT record.
Clearly, it's not discussed as much as it is with QB's. However, that's due to the fact that QB debates are constant and a mainstay in the sports zeitgeist.
I'm not sure how much you should put those numbers into context. Teams aren't running more plays now, they are just getting more yards per play. A tackle counts the same whether it's given up after 6 yards or 4 yards.Ok that's fair but we tend to only "put WR and QB stats into context ". Air yards have been going down. Can't remember if that is more recent or a long ongoing trend, but that's part of the reason. Lot easier to just avoid INT's and sacks and win than throw to win. The difference between Alex Smith and say Matt Ryan.Wow, really? No shit...
I wonder what that could be about
I really have heard talking heads talk about it, like it had been increasing. I swear, don't shoot the messenger. lol
Probably because QBs are able to get the ball out quicker as wide receivers have the advantage over the secondary.Wow, really? No shit...

Lmao how's the cherry picking going guys
I looked it up, he got 3.5 sacks in the last game to get within 0.5 a sack of the recordDidn't Allen just need one sack in Week 17 at one point, and he didn't get it?
(Much like Strahan wouldn't have, if Favre didn't throw him a favor. lol)

Yeah it will fall. 4 occurrences in the last 6 years of guys getting within 2 sacks, 2 of those guys getting within 0.5 a sack.Okay, that makes more sense. Thanks. I knew he barely fell short. Watt did too at one point. One day soon, it has to fall. You'd think, at least.
Cherry picking what?
You cannot be an NFL QB and be the toughest player in the NFL.Be sure to include in your "Identical" analysis
That one QB has a mere 16,000 less career passing yards than the other
120 less career passing TD's than the other
One guy has led his team to a grand total of 2 postseason games, the other 12, and 2 SB titles (and before we all babble on about the Giants defense, go take a look at Eli Mannings 2007 and 2011 entire postseason numbers)
Sorry, in this pussified era of NFL football, a guy doesnt get penalized for playing every single snap of a 13 year career, he gets rewarded for it, thats the toughest player in the game today, bar none
But hey, "Identical" careers
The shit i read in this place
