Their AAV as a percentage of the cap upon signing.

Like say the cap is 100M

Guy signs 1 year 20M contract

That's 20% of the cap

If you did a 2 year 20M, it would be 10%, and then the % would drop most likely as the cap grows.

It's useful for predicting general parameters of contracts for the most part. Bad on specifics, but useful for staying grounded in mostly reality.
