Rumors, truth, or leverage to get a new contract?



The New York Daily News now reports that Beckham has told two separate Rams players that he’d like to be dealt from New York to Los Angeles.

Does Beckham want to play for the Rams? One source told me at the league meetings that Beckham has told two Rams players he wants in. He does love New York, so his feeling for the Rams could quite possibly be only if the Giants trade him. Maybe he wants LA regardless.

The Rams are going to want to get him signed to a long-term extension to avoid playing the franchise tag game with him in 2019 and 2020 after he plays for the $8.4 million fifth-year option.

With so much information swirling that is open to interpretation, it’s hard to tell the difference between fact and fiction. The Giants are reportedly fielding offers for Beckham, but aren’t exactly keen on trading him. Meanwhile, nothing official has come from Beckham’s camp.

Dude wants to get paid so of course he would be in.

Sure being in LA is obviously attractive but ultimately he knows whatever team trades for him all it does is give him tremendous leverage come contract time.

He is more special than any receivers the Rams have. The Rams have a win now mentality so I wouldn't be surprised if it happened. They will be in cap hell in the near future, but if they can win SB this year or next it will be worth it.

The Rams are trying to be the Yankees of the NFL. I mean they already have a legit team, if they don’t win it all this year how do you go up from here? Obviously, get OBJ would help their chances but they can’t really afford to give him a huge contract

Odell has the biggest deal for a WR in the current CBA with the exception of Larry Fitzgerald's 8 year deal (12.50%) in 2011 in and Megatron's 7 year deal (15.64%) in 2012

AB, who is no longer the highest paid WR, was only guaranteed $19mil. And that was his signing bonus.

I think it is a terrible, terrible contract. ODB is a diva and a bitch, and now he just got paid, so his behavior is only going to worsen. But...I suspect he sells jerseys and puts people in the seats for a franchise that has an aging QB and not much sizzle elsewhere, other than a hot but untested rookie RB.

I think its more about potential than substance. But he has proven that when he's on the field he is one of the best in the game, and one of the best game-changers in the league. Giants are gambling on him staying healthy.
