Could that have been any uglier? Besides losing.

You would think, in a week where we get dropped to #10 by the committee, we would come out and try to make a statement, and sure as shit, we didn't.

Game started very well, jumped out to a 28-7 lead, and then Navy scored, followed by a Golson turnover which led to another Navy score, then I believe they scored 2 more touchdowns after the half, capping off 24 unanswered.

A game that looked like it was going to be a blowout, and a statement, turned into a dogfight. Yeah we won, but we didn't pass any eye tests. And I'm positive that a 2 loss Ole Miss will remain in front of us in the Playoff poll.

There is nothing to be gained by this game. We get no credit for blowout wins, we get docked for dogfights and, obviously, losses. There is also a familiarity aspect of this game. When you play the same team every year, there is familiarity that makes these games wild cards, even with the talent disparity.

Did I mention, this is the same shit Notre Dame has been pulling for my entire life?

This team really knows how to get my blood pressure going, Notre Dame puts me at risk of a stroke or heart attack and I'm only in my mid 20's

I think we will be lucky to maintain our spot at 10. My guess is ND will drop 1 or 2 places. With Stanford's sad performance, I can't argue that ND is any better than a top 15 team. We have played one good team and we lost.

Are you trying to lighten the mood a bit by saying that it's tough to beat a team every single year?

All teams play familiar foes. That is the nature of conference play.

OK killed Iowa St.
Ohio State whacked Illinois.
Nebraska handled Purdue easily.
Baylor creamed Kansas.
K State had no problem with OK State.

Pretty sure there is a lot of familiarity amongst those teams.

I just don't see Ole Miss dropping below us. I could see ND remaining at #10 and Ole Miss dropping to #9

Exactly. And how many times has a seemingly overmatched opponent spring a win that was unexpected. Even over long winning streaks, there are several close shaves in those games. Lou had his close games with Navy too. So did Parsighien, although you could say for Ara, Navy was a more prominent program back then.

I don't mean it happens all the time, and to point to one game misses the point.

My question is, what have we not been doing in 2013-14 that we were doing in 2011-12? Both those years we manhandled Navy and kept them out of the end zone.

One thing I know for sure, we were not prepared for any kind of passing game from Navy

Every time Navy threw the ball, they had guys open, and sometimes wide open. And even on a couple incompletions they were open. Notably, the play when Reynolds had a man wide open up the middle of the field, and his arm was hit when he was coming forward with the ball.

And hell, Reynolds himself was open on the halfback pass, that he ended up short arming.

Well in 2012, we didn't give a shit about their passing game either. Their only 7 points came on the first drive in the second half, almost all passes. With Navy you put your corners on an island and sell out to stop the run.

Which we didn't do a good job of either.

I'm fine with selling out and stopping the run, but when you're getting gashed by Navy, not only on the ground but also through the air, it becomes a problem.

I dunno, I said last week that I didn't think there was any chance of that happening.

But after this game, I'm not near as confident. I thought this game would be a cakewalk for ND. On top of that, the game with Auburn was extremely close and came down to a goal line fumble.

That said, Treadwell has a broken leg and is done. Ole Miss has some other season ending injuries as well and that are not the same team that beat Alabama - a game they barely won even then, and was after we had a few injuries as well.

So I don't know. The previous rankings were really big on record, so it's going to be interesting to see how this is handled.

The committee will prove that they're a fraud if they have Ole Miss ahead of any of the teams with 1 L.

Maybe if Ole Miss 2 losses came very far from each other but you lose 2 straight, I'm sorry you drop all the way down to the 2 L crew. You don't deserve to be up there with the 1 L crew.

I'm sorry but you can't ride your one big win which happened about a month ago and use that as the reason why you should be ranked ahead of teams who have fewer losses than you do.

I think Ole Miss should drop behind us, I just don't feel confident about that happening.

If they drop behind us, the committee would have really showed their ass.
