The Giants have a shot. The tried and true method of "Get in the playoffs and throw Bumgarner" has worked
before; why not again.

While I would love to see that happen again, we don't have that dominant bullpen anymore. And the pitching staff is going to need to be really good to make up for the lack of offense. Hoping that some of the guys rebound this year like Brandon Crawford. The defense should be better this year with a new Center fielder. I think the SF Giants can improve from last's year debacle but I don't see them competing for a title next year

We have some professional hitters in the lineup this year. They may be a couple years past their lrime but are way better than the guys they replaced

He's a good player, but 8 years is a lot for anyone especially someone who hasn't been consistent. Obviously the Padres think his 2017 season is a sign of things to come from him and if he performs like that throughout this contract it'll be a good decision. I had a feeling this week that the Padres were closing in on signing him so it's not out of nowhere. My reaction isn't very happy or very upset/angry, I'm more in the middle.

No mention of $$ in that article and the news hasn’t hit BBTR yet. Any idea about $$?

But Hosmer to the Pads just doesn’t make sense. Myers is not a good defender in the OF. Putting him there stinks of the ‘14/‘15 off season.

I don't know how you encourage a child to play football these days with the money being handed out in the MLB and NBA for guys who aren't even superstars

Lots more football players (at the top level) than baseball players.

True but how many of those 53 are making lots of money? Very few.

You basically have to be a star or QB to make a lot of money in the NFL. In the MLB/NBA, you can just be a solid player and make 15 mil or more yearly....and those sports are much safer

Much safer = harder to break in.

A lot of tehese football players likely would not make Moore that 20k-30k a year otherwise. So even 1 year in the NFL equates to 10-20 years of pay in the alternate.

I get what you are saying, and actually agree to a decent degree. But football players are treated like gods at the Hs and college level. VERY few baseball players get that treatment.

I'm happy they front loaded the contract, the Padres will need the money more at the end of his contract when the young/controllable players become more expensive.
