True. And the Devils have in recent years put together a great second half to be in the playoffs.

That said, based on what I have seen, this team doesn't have the talent to make a run. In past years, the teams did have that skill level that either wasn't utilized properly, or they just sucked. This team, I don't see either of those things being the big picture.

PDB absolutely needs to go.

Nothing. Certainly he can't be blamed for everything as he has junk to work with. Still, a new direction has to start with a move. All too often, that means the coach gets canned. Sad but true.

The strength of this team moving forward will be the young D and the goaltending. Obviously the offense isn't there so we need to find a coach that can utilize what we have and find ways to win using that (think Ken Hitchcock in St. Louis). With the exception of a trade or major FA signing it doesn't look like offensive help is on the way in the near future so we need to figure out how to play to our strengths.

Strong forecheck and dump and chase will not work with this team.

I cant believe people are talking playoffs with this team... SO WHAT if we squeak in at number 7 or 8, can anyone realistically say this team can compete in a playoff setting with the likes of the other teams that are out there... if you honestly can, then I don't know what team you are watching... I hope I am wrong, but this is pathetic... and yes, I am posting this after a shoot out win tonight..... wonders of wonders, miracles of miracles.....

Was probably me that called Elias out. Glad he scored. He actually made a good power move before his shootout goal where he ran the goalie. He came to play. And importantly, he finished his chances tonight which he hasn't been doing this season.

Gomez another good move in the shootouts. Leave him in there.

If you guys are going to give up on the Devils, might as well bandwagon on the Blues. Whatever Marty achieves with them will live in Devils lore, just like Ray Bourque winning the Cup for the Bruins even tho he won it with the Avalanche.

Unless, we retire Clowe, trade couple of D for good F and so on. No way Lou would rebuild before he retires himself.

True on the league being watered down, which is exactly why I don't want expansion.

But anyway, the Devils really aren't in the playoff race now. Looking at games played, the Devils have played at least 2 more games than everyone in the metro division, some cases 3.

i looked at the standings today for the first time in a loooooong time. i'm amazed the devils have a 9 point lead on last place edmonton. and 8pts on 2nd to last carolina. sure there is still plenty of losing to be had but if they can't get into one of the last 2 spots 29/30th. its going to suck draft wise.

i know they changed the draft rules but 30th and 29th still hold an advantage and i would hate to be picking #3 this year
