To me Kyrie is not and never will be the centerpiece of a championship team. So the Lakers would need more than him, Ingram, and Randle to seriously contend. Especially in the west. They may win more games initially but in the long run it would be a one step forward, two steps back kind of move. Plus you can't get rid of Lonzo before he even plays a game. At least not in this situation.
I don't really buy that. Lonzo may be a very very good player but Kyrie's that already. He may not be a centerpiece but he may provide more incentive when targeting other stars.

The only reason I could see them avoiding this is if Kyrie's really intent on not being in Lebron's shadow and the Lakers think Lebron's a realistic target then it makes no sense to get Kyrie.

It's obvious that lebron runs the show in Cleveland and Irving is going to have to play for a team that the GOAT doesn't play for.

It's not like they're flushing the cap space down the toilet though.
They have a Pg and they want a wing who is a franchise type player.

* Along with Ingram *

Paul George and Lebron will be on the market.

If Lonzo isn t the answer, maybe They go for one of those guys and Westbrook if he doesn't extend.

Maybe they go for Wall if he doesn't extend.

They are not going to abandon their plans for a guy who wants to be Westbrook 2.0, sans the defense when the original model could be on the market.

Plus, the Cavs are not going to give him away.

Why blow up your Team for a guy that's not a position of need?

Westbrook has supermax on the table in OKC. Slim chance he passes on that.

Everything else is theoretical. They may very well go that route but it wouldn't surprise me at all to see them go for Kyrie. Not sure why it would surprise anybody TBH.

This is not Paul George who could bolt at Seasons end.

Kyrie has 2 Years plus a players option left.

You think the Lakers are going to give up Lonzo, Ingram , Nance and Randle for Kyrie?

Because that's what it would take salary wise.

Maybe Bron wants his agent mate KCP @18 mil?

Or do you think the Cavs are itching to get their hands on Luol Deng again?

Trades actually have to make sense financially too.

Kyrie seems like the kinda guy the Lakers would covet, any other year but this one.

Lamarcus Aldridge and the Spurs are suddenly in the mix

Irving is saying the SPURS are his top choice.

WTF is going on.

This is some serious left field stuff

But, sure why not?

The offseason is more interesting than the regular season in the NBA.

@Bloody Brian Burke .....I forgot about Clarkson who makes 12 mil.

Clarkson, Randle, Lonzo....

Maybe the Cavs bite?

If I'm the Lakers, I'd try to keep Lonzo to play with Kyrie.

Now...that would be a filthy backcourt.

But, they would get obliterated defensively and you forfeit your chance at Lebron.

Kyrie is a very good player.

But, he is a ball dominant scorer who doesn't play defense. He is the point guard version of Carmelo Anthony. He makes a great complimentary piece playing next to a stud like LeBron, but if he is the franchise player, expect results similar to what the Knicks have had with Melo.

The Lakers should not even consider that.

Keep Lonzo, stay the course. They will be contenders soon.

Hearing the wolves are a team he'd like to join

Didn't you say free agents wouldn't entertain a place like Minny once they got Jimmy?
