He negotiated from 18. The Colts tried to pay him nothing. He got 14. More than any back in 3 years. The Colts were always in the weak position if they are trying to compete. That's why they so badly embarrassed themselves when he hit the trade market and they demanded a first rounder after talking shit.
He wanted 5 years, he got 3 years (he wanted a Kamara deal). That is a 40% less than he was asking for, and got less money than he was asking per year on a shorter contract. :noidea:

Read Kamara's contract again...

A couple things you've missed:

Dummy years.

Only 22.8 guaranteed at signing.

In 2023, Kamara will earn a base salary of $900,000 and a restructure bonus of $9,920,000, while carrying a cap hit of $7,977,000 and a dead cap value of $24,772,000.

Saints have an Out in 2024.

Kamara's was $34 million totl guarantee, with a $16 million cap hit if terminated early: Alvin Kamara

Regardless, it still doesn't change the fact Taylor wanted a 5 year contract and got a 3 year contract at a rate that was below what he was asking.

It was a GREAT deal for the Colts, and in regards to the current market for RB's, it was a good deal for him. It was nowhere near what he wanted though. The good part for the Colts is they can get out of the contract in 3 years with no cap hit. The good part for Taylor is that he will still be relatively young when the contract is up. If he plays well, he will get another nice contact.

Taylor and the others aren't saying what you're saying. This contract was a win for RBs as they go into free agency next year ekeler, barkley, jacobs, etc.

I’m sure their teams agree with them that it is a win! They would love 3 year contracts for the top RB’s making 25% of what the top QB’s are making per year. :D

In terms of impact on the team re: the cap, cap hit is all that matters. None of these teams are cash poor and managing acquisitions on that metric.

Are you sure about that....the Raiders traded Mack to the Bears mostly because they couldn't afford the escrow of the guarantee of his contract...so not all of them

OK, shouldn't...

There are exceptions to every rule
