Man, I hope he is gone.

I'm not sure that the failure was his solely his fault but someone had to be held responsible for such horrible starts for 2 years in a row. There is no excuse for having to rely so heavily on improvement in-season. That is a recipe for disaster.

That being said, the bad starts might be more of Pete's fault. If we see it happen again this year..........

Seahawk's assistant Clint Hurtt and former Broncos DC are being noted as the early lead candidates for the job.

WAAAAAAAAAAY too late, but it's SOMETHING. Can't believe they carried this scrub for that long....

His specialty is linebackers and the linebackers in Seattle were one of the worst (if not the worst) pass defending crews in the league. Absolutely PATHETIC, and to me I would've loved Pete Carroll to be fired because he actually invested in this dork.

One of the worst defensive coordinators of all time... And STOP looking at points allowed.... yards matters too... when your defense is on the field routinely for 70% of the game... that's a MAJOR problem.

Broncos were 8th in yards per game and 3rd in points per game this year. That's a hell of a lot better than we were, so I wouldn't be mad at that hire per those metrics.

I'm good with letting him go. I am skeptical it will make much difference.

How close is our defense as currently constituted to being able to transition into a 3-4? Fangio hasn't run a 4-3 as his base defense since the '90s and only did so 2 out of his 18 years as a DC.

If we can land someone like Vic Fangio and Pete is more hands off then our D can take a massive turn for improvement in 2022. If Pete hires from within and maintains his puppeteer status on the defense then I don’t expect much to change.

I don't know who we will hire but I don't think it would be that huge a change to run a 3-4.

I honestly don't know 3-4s nearly as well as 4-3s. I figure Dunlap and Taylor move to OLB, and Collier may be a better fit as a 3-4 DE than 4-3 anyway. It's just, is Poona gonna fit in as a NT, or any other DT we have? Seattle's run a 4-3 for so long, I never really concentrated on the intricacies of a 3-4 beyond casually knowing how opponents defenses worked in principle.

I think a new DC could make a big impact if we were also replacing Pete with an offensive-minded HC. As things look now, I don't expect a whole lot to be different. I hear Vic Fangio's name thrown around, but why would an established guy like that (coordinator-wise) want to come here and just run Pete's defense? Seems there's a better chance we'll be bringing in someone who's never held a DC job in the NFL.

IMO, has a few things it needs to fix but it is in much better shape than the defense. Provided Russ is the QB.
