Hey, I resemble that, but I am not quite 111 yet.

At least they haven't found some old goat who was in the cradle the last time the Cubs won. They always ask people about it. "Huh?" most of them say.

Just saw this about Warren Spahn ....

Inducted into the Hall of Fame by BBWAA as Player in 1973 (316/380 ballots).

CAN YOU BELIEVE he wasn't unanimous? What a bunch of pompous jerks!

totally agree john. that's always been a bone of contention in my family. my dad always said that spahn would have won 400 games if he had pitched in 42, 43, 44. can you believe that? i think that says it all.

Hell, even Johnny Bench could not get a unanimous vote from the pompous jerks who think the Hall of Fame is their personal dart board. I agree that the Hall is purely subjective and doesn't require being fair, but NOT voting for somebody just "because" is really immature. And there ARE voters who literally insist that nobody should get in on the first ballot. If you can't call Spahn one of the best ever, you should NOT be voting on the process.

It's either Arroyo or Carp. I think the graphics they showed last night about Bronson's QS numbers would support him as a guess. The only other guy who could qualify is Wandy, who seems to pitch every third day. Eat your heart out, Old Hoss!

arroyo has had the most wins. has a lot to do with him staying healthy, although i don't know how he did it for a good part of 2011. reds will have a hard time replacing that kind of consistency. also, if i had to pick a team captain, based on what i've seen and heard (from a fan's perspective), it would be bronson. it would be unusual to have a starting pitcher as a captain, but the reds could use some unconventional moves.

Arroyo is an important voice for the Reds. I'd like to see him stay, but not sure it makes financial sense to pay him upwards of $12 mil a year for 2-3 years given Reds constraints and younger and cheaper options, and future dollars for the core players- Votto, Phillips, Bruce, Cueto, Chapman, etc. I'd rather spend on Choo, but unsure if that is even do-able.

Bronson could come back on a 1-year deal but he's not likely to be urged to stay if indeed the plan is to shove Cingrani up.
I think it's realistic to think that he could be on the regression side of his career even if he isn't showing it. Lucky for him, losing 2-3 mph off his fastball isn't likely to make any difference.

Gary Nolan was not drafted in 1969. His rookie year was 1967. I believe in one game he struck out 19 and got a lose.

So ... some more trivia ... World Series, 1966 ... Game 2 ... Orioles scored 6 runs and the Dodgers committed 6 errors. I doubt that's happened twice in history. So which Dodger outfielder committed 3 of those pesky errors?

Aug. 22, 2007, Texas Rangers pitcher Wes Littleton got a save in a victory over the Orioles.
What was peculiar about this otherwise benign event?

I'd like to take credit for the answer, but my college golfer son knew the answer. He said it was a three inning save with some ungodly huge lead. Like 20 runs or something. The Reds could use a lead like that in the 8th inning.

Or for Johnny Cueto to be healthy for a full year........

And you are correct. Texas 30 - Orioles 3

Many a fantasy owner was VERY happy that day, as all of the pitchers that day were basically scrubs.

In the famous meltdown game in the 1986 World Series, the Mets rallied in the bottom of the 10th to win the improbable game.

Clemens started the game and Bob Stanley gave up the croquet shot to Buckner to end it. Who was the losing pitcher? (He also was the loser in Game 7.)
