The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance

One of the movies where you can see he was a better actor than he's given credit for. (Also some of the best black-and-white cinematography ever, not to mention a very nasty Lee Marvin.)

John Wayne was so natural, and typecast so many times, that I can understand people thinking he wasn't much of an actor. When I was young I thought that. But I was wrong.
Liberty Valence is my favorite of his too.

Not a huge fan of his, but the movie Longest Day is one of my favorite movies.

Rooster Cogburn and True Grit.

I know people didn't like the sequel as much as the original, but the Coen bros version of True Grit kind of made me like Rooster a little better.

Im always afraid to admit I like the modern version better. But I do.

Bigger budget and Barry Pepper. (Glenn Campbell versus Matt Damon is a tough call.)

I read the book with my students every year, and like that the Coens were a bit more faithful.

I like both film versions for different reasons, I guess.

Have you ever shown either film in class?

Wondering if students were puzzled with the mountainous scenery.

I show the Wayne version at the end of the semester, and I make it an assessment to see if they can explain the differences between the text and the film. I also do Shane the same way.

Getting the Coen bros version of True Grit approved for student viewing is on my to-do list. It's hard to get PG-13 films approved, but I think I can get it done.

The Longest Day is the best movie that he was in for me.

However, I understand why it's not on the list.

I'm with @4down20 .

Is the question asking:

A) what the best John Wayne movie was as John Wayne's acting in it was his personal best, or

B) what was the best movie was that just happened to have John Wayne in it
