Smith has dropped substantially in the latest mock drafts. Several sites don't even have him the first round anymore while there is one I saw that had him going in the middle of the 1st round. In my opinion he is contemplating coming back otherwise why wouldn't he have made an official announcement to go to the NFL? Brian Kelly could be recruiting him to stay and get healthy.

No if he's smart he goes pro. What if another injury happens next year and he drops to a much later round. Players who are going pro need to sit out these exhibition bowl games. Make that money man

I still think he goes pro. That's why he took out such a huge policy. He may actually fare better than late 1st round players or second round players based on the reported terms of his policy. If he falls out of round 1, he can get up to 5 million which would have covered the costs of his signing bonus.

He gets nothing but another $50,000 or more premium if the policy has to be renewed another year if he comes back.

If he stays, he basically loses $50,000 and would have to shell out at least another $50K (underwriters are going to say the risk of another injury or the one already incurred will make a first round pick less likely).

News broke he has a torn ACL and MCL and will miss his 1st NFL season. I really feel bad for this kid. He is falling into the 2nd and 3rd rd now. Looks like he will get that 5 Mill insurance.

This sucks to see this happens.

He is going Pro, he won't even be able to play next year so why come back to ND to sit on the bench a rehab. Get drafted rehab with an NFL team collect 5 mill.

I agree. Well hopefully the 49ers do draft him now they love drafting guys coming off injuries like that and letting them set a year.

Wow ... gonna undergo full reconstruct on knee.

Yeah, I do feel bad for the guy - didn't deserve this.

Good thing he had that insurance policy, I guess.

This kind of injury is hard to come back from. His chances are slim to become what he was. I do wish him luck.

I agree if he is going to miss an entire season then it makes sense to miss it on an nfl roster. The only positive is he might get drafted by a winning team

I mean they are saying if he comes back to ND he has a chance to play 1 or 2 games to show case he is good and maybe get drafted in the 1st again but that was best case. Most likely will most all of the season. Pointless to come back to school.

Of course he could red shirt and play as a 5th year and get his draft stock back up, but that is really a pipe dream.

I wish Ted Thompson would get him in a mid round pick, I've been wanting another linebacker for some time for my Packers. I hope he comes back like Colonel Steve Austin, bigger, stronger, faster. He's already a five million dollar man.

This infuriates me!!! The kid's career is possibly over because a senseless push in the back when the play was dead. He was slowing up when he was pushed. Had he been going full speed and the play was going on, the injury never would have happen. Ya, I get it...it's football.....but there was no need for the push.

Well, SI is reporting an article that Smith's surgery according to a source with knowledge "went as well as it could have." Not sure who the source is (Jaylon or his agent). They said that the doctors found no nerve damage, which was a big concern, repaired the ACL and LCL, and that he is eager to start rehab.

Camp seems optomistic about a full recovery. Again, could be positive spin put out by Jaylon and his reps, which would certainly indicate he'll declare, but will probably wait until closer to the deadline.

That said, I don't think they'd outright lie about the nerve damage and that was a big issue regarding his surgery.

This makes me feel better if there is no nerve damage. I am not sure why they would lie about this. He is about to have every team DR in the NFL looking at his reports and test's, would not make sense to lie. Surgeries these days actually make them a little stronger. I hope he can make it back! If I was him, I would take it slow this yr in rehab with an NFL team and then come back the next yr. No sense in rushing back, he is still young!!

Yeah the surgery went well. Still a long road to recovery but they say he should recover fine. I hope so.

Smith has declared for the draft like most expected. He is also expected to make a full recovery but will probably drop in the draft due to injury.
