Sure, but that's the point. You don't think the people who made the movie would have liked to have had 10 million to make it rather than the shoestring budget they did have?

Hollywood won't finance those kind of pictures.

Because people (for the most part) won't watch those kinds of pictures.

You would know this more, but it seems like the indie hits are ones that become cult classics post theatre?

Like an Office Space.

saw it on Friday, didn't think it was bad at all. I never watched the anime version, just knew of its existence. I really thought they did a fine job with the movie.

Sure, there's always exceptions. El Mariachi launced Robert Rodriguez' career directing movies, and I think he financed that on his own credit cards.

But Rodriguez is ALSO an example of the studio system trying to make everything safe. Rodriguez eventually built his own studio where he could film/make movies on his own. Because he didn't like how much input the studios had into the movies he was making.

Sadly he ended up doing mostly kids movie GCI fests.

Blair Witch and PA were alright. They just both cost next to nothing to produce and made boat loads of money. I believe PA is the most successful in terms of ROI ever.

Ghost was a great story. Sure, it was a love story, but it had sci-fi, horror and comedy as well.
