I watch a variety of movies, including older Sci-Fi. One thing I've always found interesting is movies set in the future, when the "future" happens to be close to the present day. Here are a few that are this year or coming up soon:

2017 Running Man
2018 Rollerball
2019 Blade Runner
2022 Soylent Green

Technology-wise, what those movies projected hasn't really happened. For instance, we're nowhere close to the sentient androids in Blade Runner.

Anyone else seen movies that fall into this general category?

Back to the Future was only off by a little bit on the Cubs.

2001: A Space Odyssey

Can't wait until that happens. Or 2010 for that matter.

i can't help but say Planet of the Apes. Trying to wipeout history and replacing statues in their own image. Think about.

I just watched a Netflix Original called "What Happened To Monday?". Very good movie. Noomi Rapace (The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo (original)) plays 7 different women and the editing is very good until the bathroom scene towards the end. Overall it was a pretty good movie. It's predictable, unfortunately, but the movie itself seems very smooth in its editing and fight scenes. It's sent in the year 2073 I believe where families can only have 1 child per family due to overpopulation on the planet and if there are siblings, they are put in cryosleep until either the child dies or overpopulation is not a problem anymore.

I think that a lot of the "predictions" in old movies and shows about the future ended up being wrong for similar reasons. Everybody seemed to think that the future would be about moving things faster and further, and instead it ended up being about moving information faster and further.

Most are post-apocalyptic type films. Those that don't like Blade-Runner, 2001 and even Back to the Future are incredibly wrong.

No atomic flying cars, no colonies on the Moon and Mars etc. We might have self-driving cars in 10-20 years but little else.
