Dixon a power-back?

Yeah, while watching this game I kept thinking that Dixon is miscast as a short-yardage guy. He's much more effective on early downs when he has room to run. He's dangerous at the second and third level where he can use his physicality (particularly that brutal straight-arm) to his advantage. But he doesn't have that physicality at the first level. He's too hesitant initially and doesn't run with very good lean. On 3rd or 4th and short, I think we're better off with Gore or Norris.

In violence during the game, the Oakland Tribune reported that a 26-year-old San Rafael man was assaulted and knocked unconscious in a men's restroom. Police said he was hospitalized and a suspect was arrested. There was no immediate indication that it was connected to the postgame shootings.

Anyone go the the games? Is the violence prevalent or isolated cases?

I've been to last season's Chargers - 49ers game here in SD last year and I saw about 5 fights in the nosebleeds but they were isolated incidences and you could see them coming.

I went to the game and there were probably at least four fights in the crowds around the stadium that I saw, including one huge fight with about four fans where it was nothing but haymakers for about thirty seconds. Most of the fans are cool and rib each other, but you definitely have to be careful who you are ribbing. There was a lot of gangbangers at the game yesterday, both 49er and Raider fans.

He did pretty well tonight in short and mid yardage situations. I'm not willing to judge a player on his rookie season. He looks like he's going to make a major improvement over last season.

I agree. I'm not giving up on Dixon yet. I never gave up on Brandon Lloyd and looked what happened. Dixon should be a solid back in this league if he continues to make progress. With all that said I like Hunter better than him.

Finally watching the DVR of the game. Pleased to see how sharp Alex Smith looked on the first drive and how well they ran the ball. Poor play calling down near the goal line cost them a touchdown and then the botched kick. All in all though, not bad.
