It appears lots us get these news flashes. Raiders well surprise surprise .

My first thought was "Oh shit, the Cards got him" and then I hit the link and it was the Raiders. Talk about a signing coming from left field considering we heard rumors of Jax, Atl and the Cards pushing for him.

If he does sign with the Raiders, it does have Norton's influence written all over it. I imagine, then, that they'll be keeping him at linebacker.

With this news in mind, do you think the Hawks will now look for a linebacker in the draft, fill his spot with someone already on the roster, sign someone in free agency or some combinations of those options?

Great fit for the Raiders... Definitely has that look... The Lester Hayes appeal...

With him teamed up with K. Mack, they're going to have a very strong pass rush...

Raiders spending lots of money. Must be able to afford paying all that upfront money despite rumors that their too cash poor to afford signing bonuses.

I hope so... Since the Hawks left the AFC West, I've always had a soft spot for the Raiders... I hope they are good this season... The NFL is that much better when the Raiders are good...

The NFL threw 100 million at them as a consolation prize for not being part of the LA deal. Unreal. Talk about a welfare case that's still on borrowed time because no city wants to deal with Mark Davis running the show. The money is supposed to help them with a new stadium deal somewhere, but Davis doesn't have the rest of the capital needed to develop a deal with a city and never will.

Irvin won't have the depth around him to be as effective. He never lived up his promise of being a pass rush QB assassin. He became a solid NFL OLB so you can't say the pick was a total bust, but nothing more. Nothing deserving top 5 or even top 10 money for his position. He never quite got there.

And can't wait to see the dollars involved in this deal. It's going to be as gross an overpay as the Byron Maxwell contract.

Another player whose numbers will drop once taken out of Pete Carrolls system and the talent around them that worked as a whole & helped make them look so good.

I'm not sure about that. The Raiders are going to have a solid LB corps with Khalil Mack, Bruce Irvin, Curtis Lofton and Malcolm Smith. The defense is young, and with the addition of a DT, DE and some DBs could actually put up some strong resistance for the AFC West this year. They have an absolute motherload of cap space available to them - and so I can see them trying to bulster that defense during free agency, and it seems to be the consensus that they will be looking at CB (and maybe DE) in the first round.

The biggest reason for that was the move to linebacker. Had they kept him at DE, I think we could have gotten a performance befitting his first round pick status out of him. The move changed his focus from going after the quarterback all the time to dropping back in coverage and stopping the run. He still got chances to get after the quarterback as a linebacker, but not nearly as many as he would have gotten had they kept him at defensive end. I think they made the switch when they did because they saw what he could do coming off the edge in terms of his speed and quickness and they wanted to put those skills to the test by putting some open field in front of him and allow him to chase down runners and receivers.

Seahawks should get a high comp pick for this signing. Another 3rd round pick.
