Mahomes is the best QB in the draft, someone is getting a steal in late round 1.

But if there are 3 comprable choices simply by waiting a few rounds (same goes for all positions), why the hell would you jump the gun, or not just trade down?
Because you're basically gambling that you're smarter than every other team.

Tom Brady, Russell Wilson and Dak Prescott would all go top 2 in redrafts.

Eh, thats what I get for copy/pasting someone elses thoughts but I think they left him off the list because for some reason the Redskins are waffling on their most valuable player.

I noticed they didnt list Alex Smith, either. Then again, I guess you could argue that you could find an Alex Smith in rd2 or rd3

Let's take a look at just qb's that teams used a first round pick on since 2000 and see how many were good investments. I have no problem with a qb going round 2, but redrafts are imaginary games. If you knew how good a player was going to be of course you would have drafted them higher. I also thought Russel Wilson would be sucessfull but no way I would have gone higher than a second round pick.

Out of 43 picks in the first round since 2002 only 14 have been worth their pick. That comes out to less than one per season. You are better off toying in free agency till a qb worth a true 1st round pick shows up. Out of these 15 seasons qb's like Tom Brady, Dak Prescott, Luke McCown, Matt Shaub, Matt Cassell, Kevin Kolb, Matt Flynn, Colon Kaepernick, Russell Wilson, Nick Foles, Mike Glennon, Landry Jones, Jimmy Garrapolo, Trevor Siemian. Not all great, good, or barely passable as mediocre, but compare these names to the ones posted below. You find suplimental qb's till you find a good enough qb to take the risk. Too many teams take a 1st chance risk on a garbage qb and pay for it. Because when you pick a garbage qb in round one, you now have to use him and validate his worth, unless his name is Jared Goff of course.

You find supplemental qb's till you find a good enough qb to take the risk.
Apparently you think NFL Coaches and GMs have some level of job security. This is not how the NFL works. You roll the dice on a QB and hope things work out. People picked apart Peyton Manning and Aaron Rodgers. Its your job as an NFL team to develop the guy sometimes.

The Chiefs have been taking supplemental QBs since before I was born. No Championships lately

Better than becoming irrelevant because your team has 3 positions of need and you go with a qb that fizzles out. Meanwhile the number 2 player drafted is a clear cut easy to predict all-pro bowler in the position you needed all because you took a dumb risk.

I heard one of the talent gurus say just that on a talk show the other day. He did qualify it to say that it would be 4-5 years out but he thought by that time Mahomes would be the best of this class.

Whoa....

Are you insinuating that other positions don't bust at a high rate?

You think the Rams are happy they've taken 2 Left Tackle busts #2 overall in the past decade?

My only issue is a first round pick shouldn't be a four or five year project. That should be closer to a third round pick unless you are a team like the Patriots were you can afford a couple of years to season a backup and primed to start once the QB steps down.

O-line is just like qb. You better make damn sure they are the right guy. Like the Saints drafting that garbage ass Andrus Peete. Who the hell would have thought a olinemen that should have never been drafted before round 3 would be a wasted pick?

I bet he probably thought Glenn Dorsey was going to be better than Matt Ryan
Matt Ryan was one of the easiest qb draft choices to make. He was clearly a first round pick.

The talking head didn't think Mahomes would be worht a first or even a second round pick. (Didn't think the rest of them were either but felt like some would get taken that high.) He thought Mahomes would go in the later rounds but would end up being the best of the class by the peak of their careers.
